Hey guys

Got the iClone unreal live link and I have figured out the workflow from iClone 8 to UE5 but can I send a UE5 character back to iClone so I can add or modify animation please?
Any info would be great! Thank you.

Yeah sorry this is not what I was looking for. It’s also outdated as uses the old 3D exchange and this is for iClone 7.
I am looking for iClone 8/UE5 workflow using live link to transfer if possible.

You may want to give a bit more detail…

From my understanding, I don’t think that it’s possible. I could be wrong but you can only send ‘low quality’ props from Unreal to iClone with the latest update (by right clicking on the asset)

It should not be necessary to send a character to iClone though; because technically you should have two files saved - with duplicated animations. One in Unreal and another in iClone. So, if any changes are required you open the live link, edit the animation/s in iClone and it automatically gets fixed and sent to Unreal. Then, can save your take and use it in your scene.

That is the beauty of Live link vs the Auto-set up export..

Unless you’re asking if you can import an Unreal assets/character into iClone - that’s a different story.

You can only send static meshes, not skeletal meshes from UE to IC with LL...
If I want to use a character (Biped) from UE marketplace, I export as FBX.
Open with CC4 (Create Character - Humanoid - Unreal_BaseCharacter), if needed do some slight Pose Offset and send to IC...
Then I animate and transfer via LL, then I apply the textures of original UE character, works in most cases.
If you want to adjust the animation, simply do so and transfer (motion only) and use new motion...

Sorry when I said a UE5  character I meant one off the UE marketplace. Just wondered if I could animate/tweak in iClone then send back.

Other than that, if I send over motion for unreal characters will this work please? Or would I have to retarget?

I just want to use my own animations in iClone then use on a native character in UE, sorry if I wasn’t being clear.

If you just send the motions, AFAIK you will have to retarget as the skeleton is different.
Again, just export (FBX) the character you want to use from UE marketplace (Biped)
Open with CC4 (Create Character - Humanoid - Unreal_BaseCharacter), if needed do some slight Pose Offset and send to IC...
This takes only a few minutes.
Animate in IC and transfer via LL, then apply the textures from original UE character, works in most cases.
If you want to adjust the animation, simply do so and transfer (motion only) and use new motion...
