I am a Mac user.
What codec does popVideo use to render videos with a transparent background?
If I can find that out maybe I can use it in Above Media Encoder to create a video that I can import in CTA4.

Hi...

popVideo 3 will convert most green or blue videos in AVI, WMV and some MP4 (with codec pack install). Once converted they will be in our proprietary .popVideo format for use in iClone and Cartoon Animator. Alternatively you can output in the MOV (ProRes codec) with transparent background.

Thanks for that.
I'm on Mac. I used AE to output ProRes with transparent background, but CTA wouldn't import it.
Am I missing something?
Cheers.

My guess is that ProRes is not supported as input. So to use videos with transparent backgrounds you need to use Popvideo.

If you are on a Mac then you won't be able to import video. With the Windows version you can install a codec pack like K-Lite which should allow MOV ProRes import, but not on a Mac sadly. PopVideo files are also only supported with the Windows version.

I have k-lite installed and exporting a video in proRes WITH popvideo (the software) doesnt work. Cta imports it but the background is black and not transparent. Only popvideo works. I understand this proprietary format from a business perspective but since it isnt supported anymore, shouldnt Cta allow alpha channel MOV to work? Also when I have multiple, long popvideos in the project it lags alot, which is weird because the same cant be said when there are multiple GB uncompressed avi's...
