I was looking for a way to change the skin textures on a character using the timeline.

What I was hoping to do was to replace all the textures with other ones to give the effect of turning from a human into a fairy or elf for example. Then I found Mike Kelly's tutorial "Animating skin color change" which inspired me to look into using the blend channel to accomplish the task. It took me a while to get all the textures in the blend channels and lined up in the timeline to show the change, the only one I couldn't change was the Normal map, as Mike pointed out in the comments, but it didn't matter in the end.
Then went into the Materials Tab and sent the head, body, arms, and legs texture maps to PaintDotNet, then selected "Save To" from the file menu to copy the CC3 Temp Folder link. You should be able to do something like this with whatever paint program you use.
Then went back to iClone and in the materials tab of the main character and dragged and dropped each texture, from the CC3 Temp Folder, into the corresponding blend channel.
I won't bore you with all the trial and error attempts I made in the timeline, in the end all I needed to do was pick frame 500, pick each main body textures one by one and slide the "Diffuse Strength" and the "Normal Map" sliders to 0 and all the Blend Textures to 100. As you'll see in the video it worked well enough. View in full screen to see the effect.
This was just my first attempt, I'll be playing around with it more! Thanks to Mike Kelly for the inspiration! :)

There's something goofy going on with my post above, I've tried editing it several times, but this one looks normal. :ermm:

Nice technique.

I think if you paste your article in the notepad first, copy it from there and paste it again on the subject, I think it will be fixed :)
