If anyone can help it would be great. I have Cartoon Animator 4 and I want to create a character using a png of a character I took a picture of. What I want to know is how to create separate sprites from that png file so I can add them to bones.
I thought it was done in Photoshop but I have no idea how to do it. I tried using lasso to cut the parts from the body and saving as a separate file but that didn't work out so well. Can anybody help? It would be hugely appreciated.

I found the solution to my particular problem but I would still be interested in how to create mouth actions, eye brows, etc..

Add your picture to the scene by choosing Create > Create Character from the top menus.
Then you can select and add a head image by choosing FaceEditor > Create Head > Create Morph-based Head from the newly opened menu above.

Also, do not forget to select the character in the scene to run the script after doing these operations.

Apart from that, there are templates for CA4.
It should appear on the download page.
You can edit those templates in photoshop however you want.

For clarification do you have Pipeline? The process available depends on what version you have. If you have Pro you will have to split the character up and import into Cartoon Animator. Pipeline has a PSD template but you still have to cut them up by parts just done as layers in the PSD.

But it would be cutting and filling in space. So you cut the eyes out on the face version you would have to fill the area where you cut the eyes out with the skin tone of the character. So it would look like a head with no eyes etc.

So for the mouth you would have to have an image for each mouth form for speech. The PSD template would help you know what you would need for a functional character. It kinda like Frankensteining everything together. Like the image below the eye white are separated from the iris then there is an eye mask. But the layers on the side is what the psd would have for you to file everything.

You wouldn't have access to the PSD in your account unless you have Pipeline. I believe.
