Just wondering if there is a way to use a particle effect, but have it contained within an outer object.
For example, the butterfly particle effect; is it possible to create a box and when the butterflies hit the box they would bounce off in another direction?

It is by default enabled. They would not bounce, but instead they would land on Rigid Body enabled objects, sit for a while and then fly away.
You just need to enable Rigid Body Static and for oddly shaped objects select Convex Hull or Self Mesh.

But if you want them locked INSIDE the box then enable Self Mesh and place the effect inside the box.
Or like this inside glassy sphere (once in a while they escape though).
