I feel like I should know this already, but is there a simple, free, fast way to turn a bunch of rendered jpg files into a single mp4? I've been using my video editor for this and it literally takes 30 seconds per frame... just to get the damn thing onto the menu.

What is your editor? I use Vegas Pro and I don't have problems with image sequences. They load as quick as a regular video. I'm using PNG images, but I can't imagine that things would be different with JPG.

Shutter Encoder is free, although the author does request a donation to help. It has a setting panel for Image sequences that will also accept jpg files.

I've never tried with jpg. If the program doesn't accept jpeg, you can convert it to png with any free batch converter. Then you can import your sequential images and export them in video format using the following 2 programs. Programs can also export transparently. (Only for transparent png images) Hitfilm Express is free. Corel Video Studio Pro is paid.

Corel VisualStudio. It's crappy but I have it memorized.

Hitfilm works well. I have the pay version though. I don't know if the free version works with image sequences. It's amazingly quick, and you can apply effects and edit BEFORE rendering to the MP4. The track looks and behaves no differently from a regular video track. The only thing to watch out for is to make sure that nothing else is in youe image sequence folder. It will confuse it. You can also create movies from image sequences with Picasa (if you still have it), but it's clunky and WMV-only
The Pinnacle software that you can get free from reallusion if you own CC4 says it can handle stop-motion, but falls short of importing an image sequence automatically
