Owning both Affinity Designer and Clip Studio, I just wanted to give a quick heads up to anyone considering purchasing either as their PSD editor instead of the more expensive Adobe Photoshop. In a nutshell, Clip Studio Paint is better at integrating with Cartoon Animator. When in Composer Mode in Cartoon Animator, character files transfer out no problem at all using the edit in PSD option, and when clicking Save in Clip Studio, the update is immediate in Cartoon Animator. Whilst I love Affinity Designer as a program, the problem comes when clicking Save in Affinity Designer, as it wants you to save as an Affinity Designer file first, rather than just making an update in Cartoon Animator.

Affinity Designer (or Photo) works perfectly well in this context. Sounds like you've missed the simple step that's required in the Affinity apps. Preferences > General > Enable "Save" over imported PSD files > yes please!
