I Bought nearly $820 of items from the Content Store only to have some of my purchases disallowed for the purpose of getting a free iC8 and CC4 upgrade.

Why $137  of these purchases were disallowed I do not know. There is no way to tell.

There has been no communication to tell me why these purchases were disallowed.

So I guess over the next couple of months RL will be facing an avalanche of cases just like mine. How else can it be? There is no clue anywhere that would enable users to distinguish an allowable purchase from one that is not allowed.
At the moment all I can do is return the disallowed items, regain the $137, and pick another few items which also may be disallowed. How long this crazy sequence will carry on I do not know.
And what is RL going to do about those users who wait until the last moment to make the purchase and then find too late that they have not reached the crucial amount of $799 +.

I have sent an email to the marketing department at RL. Here is a copy for the community to read:

To marketing@reallusion.com

Reallusion has sent me an email confirming that Ipaid $819.60 for Content Store Items “Payment confirmation- Order Number 10871822”.

RL has also informed me that I have an accumulated total of $683 towards the offered iC8 and CC4 fre upgrade.

I cannot account for why the RL website software prices four items at zero dollar, nor do I know where the so-called “COUPON” came from.

But even without this $69.00 I have paid more than what was required to qualify for the free upgrade.

I find that you disallowed “Office Work Combo” and “Kids at School”.

I want to know why these were disallowed and how RL software users are expected to work out which Content Store items do not qualify as part of this complex deal.

I assume it is software that has committed this freak piece of accountancy and I hope you realise that over the next two months you will be faced with a tsunami of complaints if you do not fix the software.

Meantime, I want to be accepted as having paid more than enough to qualify for a free upgrade on both iC8 AND CC4,

Regards

Sean T Mchugh

As far as I know, VAT is not calculated.

I don't think it's a mistake.
Your total order amount is 752 dollars.

Because coupon code was used: $752 - $69 = $683
20% VAT added: $683 + $136.60 (Tax) = $819.60

Since VAT is not calculated, your balance of 683 dollars appears.

Looking at the items in the Content Store, "Office Work Combo" is made up of both the "Working" and "Meeting" packs and "Kids at School" consists of both "Kids' Acts" and "Kids N' Friends"

You were charged $69.00 for "Office Work Meeting" and "Kids N' Friends" on top of the prices for the Combo Packs and the sum was then deducted at checkout under "Coupons"

Also, I'm not sure, but it looks like you tried to buy some of the products in the combo packages separately.

Office Work Combo + Office Work – Meeting
Kids At School + Kids n' Friends

You may have purchased Office Work – Meeting and Kids n' Friends unnecessarily.

Or if there are discounts on the products you buy, it may be written in their total discount amount.
In other words, if you return those 2 products that you bought extra, you will not pay extra.
Office Work – Meeting + Kids n' Friends

You have to spend over $799 before tax and coupons. Tax should not be included in the offer, because it is not a charge that Reallusion has any control over.
You have to spend over $799 + tax in order to comply with the offer. I don't know how Reallusion applies coupons to free offers.
Reallusion should be more specific on how much you have to spend before taxes and coupons. Right now it is a guessing game.

@yepkoo

Thanks for your contribution.

AFAIK in all states and countries with Sales Tax it is the customer that pays the tax not the business. So RL can claim the $136.60 back from its taxes. It is part of the price.

And I could find nowhere even in the smallest of print an assertion that only the before-tax price counted.

@Peter

Thank you for that.

I am repeating emails and quotes from emails I am exchanging with RL marketing because I think this is a matter of interest to the community as a whole.
