Please correct me if I am posting this in the wrong place. I am trying to see the particle on screen when I place it. I have only been able to see them after pressing play. Is there a way to have it show up without pressing play?

In short, the simulation needs to "run" to generate the particles. The older "Legacy" particle effects have to "play" the Timeline to generate particles. The new "Popcorn" effect particles have the advantage of the "Shift+S" feature in that it is still running and generating but the playhead doesn't have to be moving and playing the animated scene in the Viewport.
