I did save it. Here's what it looked like before:

Here's what it looked like after I put an existing avatar preset over top of it:

And you can clearly see how CC3 separated the colors of the head/neck from the rest of the body - because before everything matched. I actually think this is a bug in CC3 that has nothing to do with Headshot at all. I created a model a little while ago using the Herculean morph ONLY. No Headshot. All I did was move the morph sliders. And this is what I got:
75% of original size (was 669x19) - Click to enlarge
It's a bit harder to see because the model has darker skin, but there's color separation between the head/neck and the body. And it's REALLY apparent when you see this model from behind because he has giant lats and traps. This has to be a software glitch. Fortunately it doesn't happen all of the time. Below is a render of a model where I DID use Headshot as well as the morph sliders and it came out terrific (better than I thought it would actually):
75% of original size (was 669x19) - Click to enlarge
Anyway, I'm not complaining. I think the best way to get CLOSE to fixing it is to go to the Modify tab and select the 'Head' under Material Name and go to the Blend Map tab and expand it and work in there.

That's what's worked best for me so far.
