I have added a large hanging earing that I made in ZBrush to a character. I used GoZ and brought it in as an accessory, then attached it to the head as its parent. When I change the character's pose the earing moves with the head correctly. Is there any way though that I can get the earing to reposition itself so that it reacts to gravity? So for example what ever position the head is in the earing will automatically swing to the correct orientation with the bottom of the earing pointing to the floor? Is some thing that can be done in CC3, with out having to manually position the earing? What about Iclone 7 , if the character is anamated?
Thanks

there are several ways to achieve this - but it may be best if you posted an image of the earring you want to animate to see which technique would be best. for example, should it move like say, cloth or a chain or is it more stiff - like a long solid earring dangling on a hoop. There is no real 1 size fits all technique, it depends on the model you designed.

Thanks for the reply, Planetsstardragon. The earing has no flex points with in its self, so It is not like a chain that flexes along its length in any way. So the earing for example would be a sphere of 1.5" in diameter with a small eyelet on the top that the ear wire slips into ( which is the wire that goes through the ear itself, this can stay in the same position relative to the ear) So there is just one point just below the ear where the earing would pivot on this ear wire. Something like this for example.

ahh, then you may want to use the chain approach - where basically you can attach 1 ring to the ear after you shrink it down to the appropriate size - make it invisible, then attach the earring to another ring, make that ring invisible too. have the invisible rings interact like a chain with physics - and the earring follow along, creating the illusion that the earring is interacting with the ears. here's a video Rampa made on the topic from a chain point of view - it's basically the same concept except instead of a long chain, it's just 1 link attached to the head and earrings.

Thanks for that video. So I see this was done in Iclone in the video, if I want to do something like this and have it work in CC3 when I change a models pose to create still images from CC3. How would I get that to happen, can I do the same process that is done in the video in CC3? (just started working with CC3, I have Iclone but have not got to that yet so not sure how they work together yet) When I create the chain links , and make them invisible, how would I "get the earing to follow along" as you say, with the lower link?

cc3 is only for creating characters, while it allows for adjusting poses - that's about the extent of the animation tools. Since the final render of the character in cc3 is a still, you can simply pose the earrings into their proper position after you pose the character. use a real life photo in the same pose as a reference as to what that position should be.

Oh I see, So then if I set up physics for that earing in Iclone 7, would I be able to then put that earing on a generic CC3 character, then have the character do the Glamorous Moves Female motions that I puchased, and the earing would act as an earing that was influenced by gravity, while the character was going through those motions? and then I guess I could some how just capture a frame of that motion of a pose I liked and use it as a still shot?
Thanks

not exactly - cc3 doesn't have a physics engine - you really need iclone 7 to do it proper.... I can't say if I know a work around because I've never experimented with trying to animate in cc3 since I already have 7, I just know that it lacks the animation tools to make this happen. If I were to try a work around, I'd try baking the physics in iclone, and importing a motion plus file into cc3, but still I don't see how that is useful because cc3 doesn't have a play button and only renders stills. for all the trouble that it's worth in experimentation, simply posing the earring correctly is the most reasonable way to address this.

Sorry I was not clear about that, I mean to say I would do all of it in Iclone, set up the physics ect. Then I was asking if I set up the physics to the earing, and I put that earing on a character in Iclone, and I then had that character do some animated moves like the Realusion Glamorous Moves, would the earing react to gravity while doing those moves, and then could I just grab any frame I wanted as a still shot from that animation?
Thanks

yes. thats actually how i do it when I make my covers for my new song releases. ( although i admittedly prefer to photoshop instead of wrestling with the physics lol ) this character was created in daz, tweaked in cc3, then photoshopped
