Any plans for adding curly hair to any of these plugins?  Or maybe you hair creators can make some nice naturally curly styles.   Think Bernadette Peters.  Beautiful mane of curls!

SWAM (i think that is the name) has one updo with nice curls on top.... But I haven't seen anything like the above.  Can this be done?   Those of us with curly hair are feeling neglected :P

LOL

It would be very hard to do that efficiently. Regular hair can be modeled using layers of cards, but this would probably require modelling the hair in 3D with a fairly high poly count.

And I guess you want it dynamic too? It would be very challenging for hair strands not to penetrate each other.

Oh of course, it would have to be dynamic ;)  I kind of figured it would not be an easy task but something I think that these hair builders should strive for.  I am sure there is a market beyond me that would like to have this.

It would be extremely slow I'm afraid or require a system that most cannot afford.

You may want to look at some DAZ hair (search DAZ store for "curly hair"). There are few. They might need to be "reasonably" LODed in CC, or elsewhere (including DAZ decimator).
But I do no think it will make a great impact on performances as long as you are within 20-40K polygons for hair and you can always disable hair physics until you are about to render.
In my last project (which was large by itself) I pushed iClone to the limit applying physics to a dress which had 90K polygons. Worked out fine....

Going all the way back to Iclone version 4, there is still a hair pack called Flowing Hair Elements Volume 1 which seems to allow the building of various hairstyles, including with curls.

Most probably, however, such a legacy item would not be up to the standards of the rest of your project.

No pun intended but off the top of my head I think there is hair called 'April Amersada' from DAZ which is long and curly.  I can't imagine how such hair could be used in Iclone because I'm lagging behind now in my knowledge of all the latest features of Iclone and CC3.

On reflection, I should warn that I don't know whether the Flowing Hair pack is only sold as a legacy item for users of earlier versions of Iclone.

The instructions give screenshots of Iclone4 but I think that it should still work.  Please don't rush to buy without research, if the pack should appeal to you.

I will look at DAZ, thanks.  I am not real big on the older iclone items.  You are correct, the quality is not the same and looks off in some productions.  This particular one is toonish so I can get away with a little more.  SWAM does a really good job with hair.... I have been real happy with their products.  I do go in and change it from PBR to Digital Human Hair before exporting to iClone but the movement is nice.  Damn expensive though... only have a few styles LOL.

The Hair builder reallusion recently came out with has a "learning" sample with curly pigtails.  It would be nice to see how they made that.    Not sure how they are learning samples, I see nothing but the finished result. Am I missing something?  They are nice Samples though ;)   I have tried using the sliders but cannot come up with anything close to what they have.  LOL.

It's just a matter of time before the hair catches up to the rest of the realism.  It will have to if this is truly heading for photo-realism with 3D.  Those that are really good with hair should start perfecting this and corner the market.  Just saying. ;)
