Hello all ...
I've been trying to overcome problems associated with DAZ GeoShell Avatars.
When using the 'Transformer' in CC3, the textures are carved up differently from the DAZ originals, resulting (in this case), in the face, head and neck occupying a single map (see dotted line in image below). The trouble with this is that when increasing the 'glossiness/roughness' on the head and neck, the face starts turning into a china doll. I'm not at all experienced in mapping and such, and only got this far because of Mike Kelley's videos on importing GeoShells. Is there a simple method to get the face controllable separately from the neck and top of head? Many thanks ......

There should (hopefully) be a mask texture in Daz that has the "face" separate from the part of the Geoshell you want to control.  If you place this on a Daz avatar separately (IOW, separate from doing the "normal" part of the Geoshell) you can get this same mask over into CC3 and then use it to mask out the same glossiness/metal parts.  In re-reading this I realize this sounds like anything like "simple" but if you let me know which Geoshell you are trying I can look to see and perhaps even make a tutorial on the process.

Hi Mike ....
Yes, I've seen the 'face' you're refering to in the DAZ 'textures'. I couldn't figure just how to keep it separate given that CC3 Transformer makes new decisions on how it will calve up the maps with new boundaries. If there's a way to achieve this it would be great for sure. There's a need to have multiple instances of the these avatars posessing different 'colours' and differing 'looks'. The actual model is 'Psionne' with the Psion suite .... I think you've used that one before .....

Okay, let me look at that.  It won't be until tomorrow (my slate is full today) but I WILL do it (I'll keep this tab open in my browser to remind me).

So while working through this, I thought I'd share what I know, as it might help others ....

The following images show the texture maps both *before* and *after* going through Reallusion's CC3 Transformer.
● Image 1 - DAZ's Genesis 8 figure mapping (I've only included the diffuse maps, but the bump, specular and others are laid out in a similar way. There appears to be 6 individual maps.
● Image 2 - Transformer's newly generated texture maps which change the boundaries, in particular, the face (head) now includes the entire neck and a fraction of the upper torso ....

Plus Transformer creates 2 Diffuse Maps for the eyes:
● Pupils Diffuse   ● Sclera Diffuse

In everyday usage it really doesn't matter *where* the texture boundaries are. (Left Pic below)
However, if editing the INI file for getting the GeoShell 'suit' to become the Avatar's 'skin', then the new boundaries can cause problems.
ie: the inability to push the glossiness of the 'neck' without causing the skin to go glossy at the same time. So whether it's possible to isolate only the face - is the question.

Further, the *boundaries* of the Arms, Torso and Head are all visible high up in the chest region, making it difficult to get a *seamless look*. I'm floundering due to insufficient knowledge on this, but I'm wondering if the entire suit was on a single map then it may be possible to have it seamless?. I'm thinking that may require a very large (8K?) map - not sure if that's possible.? ....

Anyway, I found a quick and easy way to change the suit color without using an image editor. - Just slide the *Hue* control to the same value for each body part (map) under 'Adjust colour' in the modify tab. (but the face changes too :()

OK - Finally I found that by editing the Metallic and Roughness maps, it was possible to isolate the *face* from becoming too glossy ....

I haven't forgotten you, but my new computer (which I set up yesterday) is going to be replaced -- the 3090 card apparently has a fan issue (so they will send me an entire new computer in about a week).

I'm kind of stranded in the meantime, with a computer (the one I'm typing on) that has too many issues to be reliable and one that's too noisy to use (although I may still play with it in the meantime).  I'll keep you posted.

I am so sorry to hear this happened to you, KT. That is so frustrating when a GPU is not working right and you have to come to the dreaded conclusion that it is a hardware issue. I hope the supplier is reliable and makes good on getting you a quick and working replacement. I can only imagine how anxious you are to explore all the RTX things it can do,

In the meantime if you need a Titan Z, just let me know. I have a bunch to spare. 😝

Well, it's Dell computer (it's the Alienware 12) and they are building me a new one even as I type this, so I'm not too concerned (only about the time involved).

In the meantime I've resituated my old computer off on the right and put my dual 24" monitors on that desk, so at least I can work for a while.  I'll get to this issue (the one in this thread) tomorrow.
