Is there a way to have my character 'look at' another character or object at a certain point.
Right now, I have my character talk, I use the 'Look at' functionality but then the character immediately turns his head, what I want is to turn his head when I want and then to turn his head back.

In conversation you want them to switch back and forth.

I noted this bit of guidance from a reallusion page, but I cannot see where you would set this time range.

You can have the actor Look At the target object over a certain period of time and then have it stop looking outside that time range.

I've been complaining about this issue for some time now with no resolution.
What you will have to do is... after you add the first "Look At" in a second or so add a "Set Free" key frame. Then CTRL-Drag that Set-Free key frame ( to create a dupe) to a point before the first "Look At" then you can determine how long before the avatar will do it's Look At.  Then you can CTRL-Drag that first "Look At" to create another one and then  reposition those Look At's to create how long  the avatar does it's Look At then reposition that "Set Free: to determine when it will stop looking...is that wacky enough to be clear!?! It's crazy!!!!  it used to work much easier in iC5

THE PROBLEM IS YOU CAN'T CREATE A SET-FREE KEY WITHOUT HAVING A LOOK-AT KEY FIRST!!!!! CRAZY!!!!

Thanks Mark for this, I dont know why they dont have the timer in the modify dialogue window where you set the Look at, or have a separate function altogether.

I will try what you have suggested, I gave up with iclone after becoming frustrated with so many things that should be straightforward or should be easy but seemed to spend so much time faffing and tweaking and working around the shortcomings it took me away from what I wanted to do.

Im back anyway with a fresh bag of perseverance.

cheers Ill let you know how I get on.

That seems to work feels clumsy but yeah, I'll need to play more with it to see how it feels.

Thanks

Glad the "work-around"  worked for ya!   It used to work fine... you could put down a "Set-Free" anytime you needed but now you MUST first have a "Look-At" which certainly isn't the way I need to work at least!!! It was never address for me in the Feedback-Tracker either.

Are you quite advanced with iclone now? I bought it last year along with some motions and various props and characters.

I have a great imagination and wondered if I could kinda make a movie with iclone but I have been so frustrated with it, perhaps impatient.

One thing that springs to mind that annoys, is when you purchase a set like say a street (Sinister's New York) only to find your characters are way too small!

I'm not into the tech side of it, I just wanted to try and make a movie, even if it was a little rough.

I am going to persevere this time around however. I am holding out for iclone 8, I thought this was due last September.

I'm still learning something everyday and I got iClone about 11 years ago!!!!:P  You sound just like me....so don't let the learning curve stop you. I started making short movies pretty soon after getting iC4....and ya know that's the only way you can learn the program is to... just do it!!!! Make all the mistakes like me!!

Click on my YouTube channel link below to scroll through years of my silliness with iClone. I'm sure you find stuff that will make you say...I can do much better than that!!!!:D

Hey,

You done some really great stuff there, plenty to learn for me.

I am tinkering just now with iClone and something that bugs me is, when I load say a mocap motion like the City Life audience or something, when the animation plays, the feet slip and slide everywhere! How do I stop the feet moving, did they mocap them on ice?

I have a story in mind and I want to do the whole thing in iClone, I will do it even if it hurts lol

I need make time to watch more of your content on YT.

Probably need to know more about your workflow. That doesn't "normally" happen. Maybe if another animation is added one might need to use the "Align" or the other "Motion Setting Options" available.

Typically Starting with a " fresh" avatar that has no animation then adding a MoCap/anim from a collection, like that, doesn't cause any foot-sliding to speak of, at least not for me.

For me the issue (sometimes) is when I have an avatar with some animation already applied and then try to enhance it by adding some "Motion-Puppet" or "Direct-Puppet" moves then I might t I get some sliding around but even that doesn't happen all the time..I'm sure it has to do with messing with the avatar's "Motion-Root"

Ideally you might need to post an little animation of what you are doing...if you have a "screen-recorder"...

I just tried from scratch and hey no sliding! Last time I tried I had an idle motion, then applied one of the mocap animations, didnt think that would cause an issue.

Oh well, now I know.

Thanks again.

Have you done any complete movies?
