I tried Faceware for iClone but it’s just not good enough for what I’m after (basically to have realistic emotion and performances, not just simplified cartoon stuff).

I’m now trying Faceware Analyzer and Targeter but can’t seem to get it to work with character creator / Iclone characters.

Anyone had success doing that?

The big problem is the blenshapes. I think it's not about faceware but when CC3 characters will have more blendshapes, it will better for realistic emotion and performance.

Honestly when I see a monthly or annual fee for a software in the thousands I’m done and moving on.  The other thing is that the demo clips don’t look any different to me than the Reallusion version and it doesn’t look better than the IPhone facial mocap either IMO.

The results with standalone Faceware are night and day better than the Iclone Faceware plugin, or the motion live / live face app combo (iPhone), in my experience. You get really amazing tracking and expression. Looks very human indeed.

And the good news is that Faceware standalone can be bought for $480 a year now (Analyzer 3 studio $299 a year, Retargeter 5 Studio $179 annually). BUT you need 3dsmax or Maya, which is $295 a year if you or your company earns less than $100k a year.

So yeah, not cheap, but $775 a year is better than the $4,000 that the newest Faceware software (Studio) will set you back per year!

The issue is that there are zero (zero) YouTube videos on how to get iClone characters to work with Faceware Retargeter. And the other option is to apply mocap to one of their sample characters (Eg. Victor) then export that keyframes blendshape (morph key) animation as an fbx. but good luck converting those morph keys to Iclone-compatible ones in 3dxchange. I cannot for the life of me figure that one out lol.

Hi Toby,
Maybe the best course of action would be to wait a little till the full Metahumans features of UE4 are released.  I’d guess it will come with everything we need and it will likely come free of charge.

So true - we will have to see what Epic / Unreal does.

They own Cubic Motion now, of course, and possibly they will release some sort of free or cheap version of Persona?

I’m getting nowhere with Faceware support, so possibly this is the way to go - Epic FTW. Smile

I have the Faceware plugin and Faceware Realtime for iClone and it has been working good enough for me.

But then again, I'm not trying to chase the uncanny valley... I also don't rely solely on Mocap.

Bit of an old thread, but this forum is mostly dead anyway.

I just picked up the Live Face plugin and am relatively underwhelmed so I started looking at Faceware and noticed the Faceware Studio Indie version is sub $200 (from Faceware assuming you're an Indie that meets their requirements).  I assume that there is no connectivity between it and iclone?  Is that accurate ?

So, it's $1590 (which you can get for ~$800 with patience) with iclone integration or < $200, but no iclone integration?  Isn't the feedback that standalone Faceware seems to be better than the integrated version ?

Any thoughts on this ?

My thoughts (which may or may not be still above) is that even at $200 I wouldn't use Faceware v. Live Face (and I practice what I preach, since I own both and Faceware is no longer even installed on my working machine).

If you don't like Live Face you'll hate Faceware.

I teach Faceware to my students.
The results are very good and the students are pretty happy with the tool and the process.
For 200$ a year it's a pretty sweet deal !  Kudos to Faceware for making this step Smile
