There is a 4GB patch from years ago somebody created that gives 4GB of memory instead of the 2GB. I used it and it works.
You run the patch. Put the exe file in the box and click on button. Then you run your program (3DXChange, etc) .
Here is link to page
4GB Patch – NTCore I appreciate the reply in the spirit of help it was given. However, I already knew about that. The reason I am hopeful for a newer, 64-bit version of 3DXChange is not due to a 2GB memory limit. One reason is because, currently, 3DXChange does not support SketchUp files newer than the 2016 version and fixing this requires a 64-bit version of the SketchUp SDK, which requires a 64-bit 3DXChange. (This is a problem because Trimble / 3DWarehouse stopped support of versions below 2017 and, with few exceptions, does not offer SketchUp models in older versions.)
There are other reasons to be hopeful for a new version of 3DXChange, though. Aside from being able to utilize more memory to bypass current issues with memory limits, I'm hopeful for support of more modern and popular 3D model formats. In particular, see the
Possible future support of the .glTF model format topic that I started.
For that matter, I was extremely surprised to learn recently that Character Creator now supports
direct uploading to Sketchfab through a
software bridge (Sketchfab API). :w00t: Now that's a nicely modern feature! (See here for details: sketchfab.com/exporters/character-creator ) I just wish that 3DXChange had similar functionality through the Sketchfab API to download files directly. (Better yet would be if the Pipeline version also allowed direct uploading to Sketchfab.)
