Nearly 700,000 participants representing more than 300 different organisations in 38 countries are expected to attend the event, which opened on Tuesday. Ye Ming, deputy party chief of Hangzhou, hopes the city’s commitment to the animation industry will attract new artists and projects in the future.
One of the biggest festival events is the Monkey King competition, China’s most prestigious animated film awards event, including prizes for direction, music, design, 3-D effects and more, for both foreign and Chinese animated films and video games. This year’s big winners were Kung Fu Panda for foreign animation film and Calabash Brothers for Chinese animation film.
