I hope someone can help advise me, I have a scene with a lot of characters and for some reason I don't have enough ram. I have 16G of ram but iClone will only use 2, therefore I can't make my character move his legs when he runs, not even in minimal mode. I already downgraded the background characters to save ram. How do I designate more ram for iClone? I am not a technical person so please provide simple steps by step instructions.

Thank you,
Lorraine

Hi Lorraine

16GB is your system ram. In iClone the video ram available on your graphics card is most important. Once you exceed this it will affect performance.

In iClone please turn on the Info display (CTRL+F) and check how much video memory is being used and how much is available when you load your project. If the used video memory is greater then the available video memory then you will need to consider reducing the size of your project by splitting it into two or more smaller projects.

Ideally for iClone video memory of 8GB or higher is recommended if you wish to build complex scenes.

So if our video ram is large but the CPU is 4 or 5 years old, Can we still use our ram well? For example, I have a 8700K CPU. Can I use thenewly released 3090 with 24 GB RAM without bottleneck?

I would say yes, and that looks like a great card or cards they have coming out, I think the 10gb card looks the best value with great performance, I'm looking to upgrade my GTX1080ti -11mb to one of the RTX cards most likely the 10gb one.

I'm maxing out my 1080ti in pretty much every scene...I'd look towards getting something with more ram like 3070TI 16GB, or 3090, 24GB

what is your processor Do you think you need to change yourprocessor to use the RAM capacity well? Do you think it makes a bottleneck?

Thank you for your reply. I always keep that showing so I know how much video I am using. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 with 16 gigs of RAM; how do I allocate more ram to iClone? iClone is only using 2 gigs out of 16.

Thank you.

Ok, there is the trend to consume more and more VRAM.
I also experience that 11 GB is not enough any more.
With a few CC3+ characters which without any problem double their file size.
Sure, it can be handled with a few settings to reduce realtime quality.
But it brings my system to its limits a lot easier now.

The 3090 is an affordable Quadro RTX but for creators.
Very good decision of NVIDIA. I think it will pay off.

Unfortunately the options are very limited now.

There you have it. The 1050 has only 2 GB of VRAM.
Your system has 16 GB RAM but that doesn't help you since it can't be used for 3D realtime rendering.

The 16 GB is your system RAM. What we are looking for is Video RAM or VRAM, which is the memory on your graphics card.

Your card is a GTX 1050, which has only 2 GB of VRAM. The info screen will tell you how much you have total and how much you are using.

Since you only have 2 GB and you are using 2 GB, the card is maxed out. iClone will then try using system RAM, but that is a slow process. So even though you have 16 GB of system RAM, the card is the bottleneck.

EDIT: 3dtester beat me to it...
