Hi everyone! I'm new here and I'm going to try out the iClone + Kinect experience. I'm pretty excited, because I've been doing animations by hand for years, and wanna see what I've been missing out. That being said, I've never used iClone or Kinect before. And, I haven't really found any tutorials to help walk through what I need to set up and get started. I was wondering about the following: 1- I'm about to order a Kinect online later tonight. Are there any adapters, cables, or other hardware, I'll need to make sure I have? 2- Once everything comes in the mail, do I just plug it into my computer and turn on iclone? Or is there a middle step in there somewhere, like extra software I have to download? If there is, what is it called? And, finally 3- I'm not expecting amazing results or anything, but in your opinion, what are some things I should know about that may make my life easier trying to figure this out.
Thank you all very much for your time!

Hi Kevin If you are planning on purchasing a Kinect you will need to make sure you buy the right one for your operating system. If you are using Windows 10 you will need a "Kinect For Xbox One". In addition you will need the Kinect PC Adapter to power it. That's all you need hardware wise. On the software side you will need the Kinect Mocap Plug-in. This can be purchased from the page below. This needs to be installed with iClone closed down and you shouldn't install any other Kinect software or the SDK as the correct version you need is included with the plug-in. https://www.reallusion.com/iclone/mocap/

As for (3) -- don't expect to be able to turn around and lower your expectations about anytime you put your arms in front of your body. Basically for slow movements where you are careful NOT to cross your arms (keeping them away from your body) or legs you can get some decent results. The other thing to be aware of is that mocap is one of those things where folks expectations keep growing and growing (it's like getting a *little* taste of something good - you just then want better and better until you've spend... wait for it... thousands. Trust me, it WILL happen).

Wow, I didn't expect such helpful and supportive responses so quickly. Thank you both for taking the time to answer my questions. I'll be sure to follow that advice and I'm just glad to hear that it seems a lot more simple than I was imagining. And, yeah I'm trying not to spend too much money, but everyone tells me, that's basically inevitable if you love your field lol -
Thank you again, I believe you guys have answered all my questions :)

Does the Kinect plug in allow you use multiple sensors to capture at the same time?

I recently set up the Kinect v2 and installed the Xbox One mocap plugin. I got a DPC_Watchdog_Violation that restarted my computer. Any ideas why?

Running Windows 10DPC Watchdog Violations are often caused by hard drive problems but can be caused by conflicting drivers. Do make sure that you installed the correct drivers for your version of the Kinect. Is it a 'Kinect For Xbox One' with the Xbox PC Adapter? Importantly you should only install the one set of drivers. If you install two different sets of drivers it can cause a conflict. If in doubt uninstall everything and just install the one set of 'Kinect For Xbox One' drivers that came with your purchase of the Kinect Mocap Plug-in. For more information on the DPC Watchdog Violation error, please see the page below. https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/dpc-watchdog-violation.html

Oh, I have a "Kinect for Windows", which I can't get to work. I have actually tried for a couple of years now. Kinect Studio can connect to the device, but the Reallusion Mocap Plugin can not ....... So, that's the reason why - darn! No Work-arounds ?
Thank you very much
Kind Regards Erling
