Whoever here can help figure out the issue, that would be really awesome!
Thank you in advance! :-)
Postfrosch and Slyerazazel: I will try to answer both of you in this same reply...
These are always just the CC characters that we are making and animating our characters with.
That is all we are using for the needed consistency in our production.
The hair comes from a very realistic looking pack that we purchased here in the marketplace.
I will give the specifics on exact hair pack only via private message, as I do not want to damage the reputation of the modeler.
So anyone who wants to take on helping to solve this, just send me a pm please, for which hair pack it is from.
But forewarning: It will not be as simple as one quick test.
In CC, it is like it builds up for just a little while in commands, and then when it all crashes, it does not take much for it to crash again.
So it's not like simply highlighting a few faces on the left side and then a few faces on the right side and right away the issue comes out.
It takes a short while of it for it to start happening.
And then it is all downhill from there unless I change course.
Please note that I do not recover the crashed project file in case it is at that point corrupted.
I always start from the last saved file instead of restoring the one that crashed.
In iClone, it also happens after I add the realistic looking hair.
My scenes are complex. But we have plenty of space and power for them.
(Pasting this from one of my recent post replies.) Here are the specs on my animation computer:
CPU: 17-7700 at 3.60 GHZ
RAM: 64 GB
Graphics Card: 1080 Ti (12 GB) * purchased online last year as being in "excellent condition" and not used for mining.
Tower: Dell XPS
Operating System: 64-bit
An extra fan just to keep it totally cool.
And we stay up to date in the latest versions of both iClone and CC.
* We are going to add a brand new graphics card. We are going to every length here.
I do not remember off-hand if problems start showing up immediately or gradual... ...or if it started showing after a build of additional motion editing commands after applying the hair.
But I may have noted it in a recent prior post on the issue.
Before adding the hair, there are already a number of clipped down and edited motion clips in the scene on the character.
So that would of course add to the scene's complexity.
The motion files are as follows:
A very safe persona walk and 1 or 2 motion files from Mixamo that I have clipped from and greatly edited.
I do not do a "zero reset" on the character when I add the motion clips.
I need to have him where he is in the scene.
But Rampa showed me how to place the character from the root if there is a flying issue.
(This will happen in the times that I import a motion file I already edited instead of going fresh from 3DXChange.)
The issue that goes on in iClone has been a great slowing down of editing motion files on the character I added hair to.
But also it can't wait to close on me after that. :-D
More specifically here, iClone will close completely out if I click to start a new project file.
I will have been editing motion files and then decide to just start over on that piece.
Sometimes it is because I was trying something out and did not like it.
Other times it is because it is delaying every little command.
So the motion editing does not come out right because I cannot see how much it moved that bone until afterwards.
It does not move with my movements. Bottom line. So then it becomes a mess.
And if I have given it too many commands to be worth undoing them all, I would rather just start fresh.
It will of course ask me if I want to save that one first.
After I tell it no, iClone just closes down instead of going back to the blank screen.
I have had to go back and get a previously saved project file from before I ever added the hair for everything to go normal again.
In a recent test, I added couple of other CC characters that we made and put them in the scene with the character who then had delayed motions.
Now here is the interesting part: I could move them just fine in that scene.
Was it because they did not already have a string of motion files on them, or did the file of the character become corrupt?
Naturally, I tried re-importing the main character from CC. And the problems persisted.
Was that because the character previously had the hair on in CC and something happened to him after that?
Or was it a combination of the hair and the long string of edited motion clips?
The whole project file is only about 1 1/2 minutes.
But would the amount of pieces of motion files or the amount of editing cause this to happen?
Yet everything was going along just fine until I added in the hair.
In iClone, I do turn off most of the props while working, and only keep on the props that I need.
But that does not change the triangles in the scene. So it probably does not change the vertices either, right?
We have 3 different desktop computers in our computer room.
I only use the animation computer for animation and nothing else.
I do not even communicate from my animation computer except to send home-made textures and opacity maps back and forth.
(I keep my Photoshop program in my personal computer.)
My husband's computer is a little bit multi-function.
It also has really good specs. I forget the exacts of his, though.
He mostly only has programs on his computer that are related somehow to this project.
He creates the characters and also does the video editing on our project.
He has also had issues happening in CC on his computer after he has added the hair.
And those issues have happened after a bit of working with the character modifications.
I can't remember if his stalls or freezes. But I can ask him this evening if that extra info is needed at all.
Is this enough to go by to potentially solve this one, you guys?
Again, these would not be quick tests. It would almost certainly need to be a build in order to see it.
So we are very grateful if anyone wants to take this one on - as a lot of people I am sure will be.
Thanks so much!

What could cause a computer tower to keep crashing (literally shutting itself off and then back on again) during mesh editing?
If your computer is shutting down then this points to a hardware issue and not a software issue. It may be an overheating problem (computers are designed to shut down if they overheat) or you may have a faulty graphics card or other component that fails when under stress. I see elsewhere you mentioned that your graphics card was a used model so it is sadly possible that this had a problem which may be why the seller got rid of it. It would also be wise to check you have adequate cooling in your tower and that the fans on the graphics card itself are working and are not clogged with dust. To check the temperatures of your hardware you can install a small program called HWMonitor. This may give you some clues if you have hardware issues. https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Thank you for your input on this, Peter. I really appreciate it.
It is for sure not over-heating or clogged. My husband just checked all of that about a week ago.
It was barely warm, but he went ahead and installed an added fan just to stay ahead of the summer.
The animation computer we purchased only maybe about a year and a half ago.
My husband did all of the upgrades himself (which he has quite a gift for).
Our "like new" / "excellent condition" graphics card may be holding it back.
But my husband also has issues with the hair on his own computer.
Although his graphics card does not contain as much space as the actual animation does, that one has been only used by him.
So there is still a connection somewhere with the realistic looking hair.
The problems only start happening when one from the pack has been added.
A brand new graphics card for my animation computer is on the way.
We are hoping it will handle the hair.

Yes, I agree. I do not know why what he said applies to anything.
But I think commented because he is trying to get people to buy something from him.
OK, I just cleared some quick space in my inbox. :-)
You are also welcome to email me on my website if that helps for space to talk on.

Peter, is there any way you can delete matenn30's comments off of here, please?
We may end up solving something that has been causes crashes for many people.
So it would be nice to keep this thread clean.
Malenn30 only came on here trying to push something.
For all we know, what he wants people to get from him could be malicious.
So you could be saving a computer by deleting his comments. :-)
He is insulting and arrogant towards the people here.
And his comments have nothing to do with any of this - and they make no real sense anyway.
Please and thank you.
