Hey Guys!
What could cause a computer tower to keep crashing (literally shutting itself off and then back on again) during mesh editing?
It has been happening every time I am hiding faces on the skin mesh.
Thanks,
~ Kimmie

Added note on that: It might still be an issue with hair.
This character had hair on.
If anybody has any ideas on this, we are all ears.

Firstly if you believe it may be the hair. I would open a project and delete the hair first, and then attempt to hide some of the skin mesh. But there could be anything that could cause the issues. -Check to make sure your graphics card driver is up to date -Check to make sure your operating system is up to date -If the above 2 do not resolve the issue, uninstall the program and reinstall it. Myself and others have had issues with bad installs of the products itself. -Does your computer have enough VRAM (Video Ram) when editing? You may want to try lowering the display settings. -Is your system RAM maxing out? This could cause lag and system crashes. If you do not have enough physical memory while the program is running.

I have found that some hair is very process intensive (I forgot which one, but it was a recent product), so checking resources as suggested above is a good idea.

Yes, of course I deleted the hair as soon as I realized that was the cause. :-)
But I needed it to see where it would lay on the outfit.
I have been doing some very specific skin mesh editing and cloth editing. So it was time for the hair.
Naturally, we have the hair on the character to predict where there could be possible problems arising.
It has happened both in CC and iClone due to adding hair on a character.
So we are looking for what is causing my animation computer to be so sensitive to realistic looking hair.
Everything is up to date, and we have ample RAM and graphics space and such.
(My husband builds computers for fun, so I am spoiled with technology. :-D )
This is why it is a mystery. I know it will help others as well if this can get figured out.

Uninstalling and Re Installing Iclone and Character creator may help. Does it happen with all hair? or just a specific hair? If it is just a specific hair, you may need to contact the developer or Reallusion.

It is not just one hair. But so far these lately have been from a specific set of hair.
But we really like this line of hair, and we currently have a very limited amount of choices out there for good Bible Times hair.
- And that is including making modifications on hair that was originally made for a female character.
Delerna is custom making some for us. He makes some pretty cool looking hair that will fit beautifully and not crash our systems.
But my husband is firm in us having our very front and center characters in the most realistic hair that we can find for them.
And I do not blame him. We have come this far in our project, and everything else in the scenes are at a high level of realism.
We stay clear from fiber mesh, of course.
(Boy, we learned the hard way last year about that stuff! It would crash immediately with only a blank character in CC!)
But since some systems apparently do OK with line of hair that we are using, we are hoping to figure out the difference in systems.
I may just contact the modeler and ask him what system he uses when creating the hair and if he has seen any patterns of issues with them.
Every time the tower crashed today, I was highlighting a few faces at a time on each side of the body.
It did not crash when I just hit the button to expand to a bunch of faces at once. But not every situation calls for that.
So in a nutshell, the system cannot handle hair in combination with even one slightly "complicated" command.
If I need to do something that is not super simple, I cannot have the hair on the character at the time.
Thank you for your input. :-)

Hello Kimmie, it might be for everyone who wants to (and can) help you very helpful times a screenshot of the hair or the avatars to show which ones create these crash problems. Where are these hairs from? From RL? From the RL marketplace? Or imported from DAZ? All of this knowledge would be of great benefit to potential helpers Greets from Germany Postfrosch

The more information on everything will help us troubleshoot your issue. I've previously worked in IT support and troubleshooting problems. Even the littlest detail could help. Which hair line (pack) is causing the issues? Someone with that hair could possibly try and replicate your issue. You also said your computer should be ok to run them fine. But for us to rule it out, can you list the specs of your computer. CPU, RAM, Graphics Card. Windows or MAC? Are you using the Reallusion Hub? Do you have the latest versions of iclone and character creator? It could even possibly be something not related to iclone or character creator. Has the computer ever crashed during any other programs? Do you use any other resource intensive programs? Faulty RAM could even be the problem.
