It may not all be lost.

Try and see if you lower your Resolution in preferences if it will open.

Most of the time you have it set high, as most do, because you want to see the final results as it builds. Choose Quick Shader before opening and see if that helps, you can change it to a higher setting after opening if need be. It's usually related to memory, whether Video or System. It could also be an external file not being located quickly as some of mine are maintained on an external drive that sleeps if not accessed regularly.

Thanks.. but that didn't work :(  I tried re-naming the file and it loads.. but if I do anything then it crashes. I'm frustrated. I guess I will have to start saving work more incrementally than I do.

Defragmenting your Editing Hard Drive might fix it.

it's one of the new features, the crashes are much smoother now!!

usually when that happens to me, it's because of one particular item ....what i would do was delete and undelete each item until i found the culprit, then you just reload a fresh version of the uncorrupted character / prop .... quite often for me a combo of brightness and texture would trigger it. I'd also go into quick view and turn off any HD affects if you have them on while you find out whats causing it, the hd only makes it worse.

i dont know if this applies to your situation, but it sounds familiar, this fix worked for me some of the time ...others it was just in the file itself ...if you compared files before and after this bug ...you would probably notice a huge file size increase which is why i suspect it's something that gets corrupted.

iClone 4 has problems loading project files that exceed your computer graphics Card capabilities.

I realize this is not a practical solution but my guess is that you may be able to open your project with a more powerful graphics card installed. Then you could clean up the project to reduce its poly count and texture map count by removing the most demanding object from your scene and saving it.

So maybe you can borrow a card, or open your project on another platform that has iClone and a more powerful graphics engine :)

Hope this helps. :)

Since I don't know what system you have or what exactly your problem is, I don't know if this would work for you. There was a 4GB patch posted here that allows the program to access more than 2GB of virtual memory. I had the situation where the project I was working on, even in wireframe mode, kept crashing because it required too much resources to open (more than the 2GB limit). I tried this patch (making sure I kept a backup copy of the original exe file just in case) and it worked for me. Hope this helps. :)

I've had two instances where I couldn't load a project, and was able to fix it:

1) Defragmenting drive fixed it.

2) My sound card has two options that I switch between: Optical-Digital output (which I send to my receiver/speakers) and standard mini-jack output (which I have my headphones hooked up to). For some reason, this project wouldn't open if I had mini-jack output selected. Once I switched to that, it opened fine. Then I resaved it and it stopped caring about which audio output I had selected.

None of this works. I don't think it is my machine. I have a core i7, 6 gig rams, and a radeon 4800 video card.

My drives are defraged, I just don't get it. Tho I think I am getting closer.. its seems to be a prop from the bugs content that is doing... it seems those are the files that won't load. This sux. I am really getting frustrated.

just curious how big is the project file? i have a similar system (gfx ati 5770 1GB) and i was able to open as high as 5.5GB project file

now i do have iclone crashes typically after i finish with a project (rendering it out) then loading another project - i assume iclone is not releasing the RAM once a new project is loaded over an old one...

incidentally, more on memory address space for various windows version
