I seem to remember that masking in 5.1 kept the background from moving during 2D puppetry.   But in trying this with 8.1, it instead masks OUT (turns white) the entire background which is not what I'm wanting.

Would anyone be able to tell me what I'm missing?    I just want the background frozen during facial animations...

On more questions.   Can custom created heads be shared with other users ?   If so, what is the best way to do so?

Thanks

Hi...

You will always get best results if you separate the head from the background otherwise the background will move as the head moves.

The way you do this hasn't changed in CrazyTalk 8. You just remove the background from the source image. This can be done using an image editor like Photoshop, Gimp etc. (recommended) before loading into CT8, or you can do it in CrazyTalk itself using the built in tools. Once you have removed the source image background you can then load a custom background in CT8 which will appear behind the character and won't move when your characters head moves.

Note: If you want the background image from the source photo as the background image in CT8, then just do a little editing in an image editor to remove the head and save it as a separate background. Almost all image editors have specialised tools for removing objects from photos so you should be able to find a tutorial on YouTube if you are unsure how to do it.

Yes, I resorted to that, but wasn't there a way to freeze the background in CT 5?    Could have sworn there was a way to designate background as such and it would freeze it....

Meanwhile, I'll pre produce the images for CT

Thanks Pete

Hi...

In CrazyTalk 5 you could choose to lock or unlock the background but this still required the original background be removed from the source image and a separate background image to be loaded just like CT8.

You then had the option of unlocking the background which meant that if you rotated the character the background would rotate too. If it was locked the background would not move with the character. In CrazyTalk 8 the background is always locked and will remain in place if you move the character (see image below for an example of how this worked in CT5).
