Hello.
I wanted to bring in a substance from a download substance share site- unzipped the compressed folder- it has a folder labeled DEPENDENCIES: numerous SBS files, 1 SBSAR file and a JPEG.
Plus a separate SBS file and a separate SBSAR file.
I have no idea what to do next to load these into my iClone so I can apply to my prop.
Can't find a tutorial.
Any help will be appreciated much!
Thanks!

What is pictured on a Jpeg file? Is it a globe icon representing a substance?
Anyway, SBSAR should go into Materials folder under Media tab.
You may create a sub folder inside this folder.

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/e87b82e7-0439-4ce5-8566-6ab1.jpg

There is no Custom tab for the Media for some reason.
Like they never though someone would want to create/save custom materials?

Anyway, you have to click "Find File" on Materials and it would take you to: Template\iClone 7 Template\iClone Template\Materials Lib\
Where you can create a subfolder for your custom materials/substance.

If you wish to have a thumb icon over newly imported SBSAR, you have to create a PNG image (which should represent substance in one form or another) and name it exactly as your SBSAR file.
Then place that image in the same folder as SBSAR (You might need to restart iClone for the thumb to take an effect).
like:
my_substance.sbsar
my_substance.png

Now you should be able to drag/drop new substance to your props surface.

Alternatively you may leave SBSAR wherever it is you have now and just browse for it from the Materials tab > Substance section of the objects:

Wow, thank you for such a thoughtful reply.
I have attached the zip folder with all the files. No special icon on the JPEG.
I'll give your suggestions a try- but it's unclear to me- even if I manage to get iClone to see the files- do I put them in a special order in the Midify>Materials>Texture Settings?
Is one a Diffuse, another the Bump etc?
Obviously very new to iClone-
Thanks again for your help!

You do not need to worry about SBS files unless you have Allegorithmic Substance Designer and wish to customize it.
This is how it would look when you open it in ASD:

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/302f5c66-b2b2-438a-8ba8-431f.jpg

SBSAR on the other hand, is like a compiled self-container, which has everything you need packed and can be opened in iClone or other 3D app which support substances
So all you need is rock_wall.sbsar (disregard everything else).

This is how substance looks when applied to the plane in iClone:

If later on you need to tweak individual textures (which already applied in iClone from sbsar), then you need to bake the substance textures.
You can do it individually for every texture slot (there is a button there), or globally from the menu Edit > Bake All Substance Textures.
Generally it is recommended to bake substances. Otherwise, if too many substances are used in the project, it would become very slow and unmanageable at some point.

Here I made a thumb for you. Just name this image rock_wall.png and place it along with rock_wall.sbsar into any sub folder in Materials folder.

Great information, thanks!  I loaded a primitive and attempted to use the Substance on the primitive, but the Substance section of the Materials tab is greyed out.  Is there some process for making the geometry utilize the Substance?  The Activate check box is also greyed out.

Make sure that the item is selected in the scene window, yellow bounding lines visible, and the "Load" icon in the Substance panel should be active.

Or, with the item selected navigate to Media>Material>Substance folder and just left click and drag a substance on to the item.

Thanks, Gerry!  I needed to restart iClone to see the SBAR files, and then the drag and drop worked fine.  Where's the coffee?
