Hi, If I get a free asset- say from 3D warehouse, and it is a FBX file- do i have to convert it before being able to use?
And if I have to convert- do I need 3Dxhange to accomplish that?
Thanks for help!

You should be able to drag and drop it into iClone -- however, you will be disappointed with the textures (and need to texture it yourself).  AND it might need cleanup (in Blender, for example).  Most free models you get what you paid for.

Gave it a try and was able to pull the 2D image in - it's a window pane.
Have two questions-
1. How do I pull 3D models/assets into iClone 6pro?
2. What is 3Dxchange used for?

Thanks again, much appreciated!

Sorry, I don't remember much (if anything) about 6.

3DX would have to be used there, for sure (IOW, you'd have to use it to get it into 6 AND it would have to be 3dXChange version 6 -- the newer one wouldn't work in 6).

red/orange: it is better to ask technical questions in the appropriate sections of the forum. This is for introductions only.

.. a few lines below this one... https://forum.reallusion.com/iClone
..but i can relate to why you're wondering..I would put it there anyway as putting questions elsewhere other users will only see this if they enter that part of the forum specifically.

A little friendly tip is to specify your problem / question more closely to the particular question so a another viewer / user won't have to open the topic to know what it's about

So in this case i would have written "ICLone 6 - Import FBX questions"   .. or anything simliar that summarizes it more closely
People today don't have a very long timespan to spend looking through countless of posts to find something they can help with.. and have the extra time to spare

Good luck
