I'd like my character to look behind him without flipping his whole body around.  How do I flip just the head and nothing else?

With a  G4 character, you can create a head turn to make the head turn back.
Otherwise, here is my suggestion:
1, After you have done the animation for the character, duplicate the character.
2. For the 1st character: delete the body parts.
3. For the 2nd character: delete the head parts.
4. Flip the 1st character's head.
