if you can get by w/720P - a Panasonic ZS3 is all you need. Shoots hi quality video (quality better than Flip types) and its a good camera

12X zoom (optical), better storage options

Gawds, I can't believe I forgot about this thread.

Ok. the Flip HD is great... unless it breaks. Ours did a few weeks after taking it out of the box. After dealing with the problems and in the process of looking for troubleshooting tips online we came to realize that one in seven reviews on Amazon were 1 or 2 star, and almost all of those mentioned Flip's terrible tech support.

And yes. It is terrible. They refused to honor the warranty, after hours on the phone jumping through their hoops. According to them the camera's warranty expired TWO MONTHS prior to its purchase! They would not accept a return without a proof of purchase, even though we explained to them that it had been bought as a gift and neither us nor the giver had kept the receipt.

We finally returned it to the Wal Mart where it was purchased. They were fantastic! After explaining to them our ordeal with tech support, they found the record of purchase in their computer and allowed us to exchange it for store credit, with which we purchased a DXG 1080p with 5x optical zoom and image stabilizer. It cost less than the Flip, has more features, and the company has a much better reputation.

LOL, received mine (Ultra Flip HD) today. It looks like a toy -- I mean not real. Well, mistake I think I made -- not buying an additional rechargeable pack and not buying the recharger which lower recharge time from 6 hrs to 3.5.

Good thing this camera can use standard 2A batteries.

That 5x Optical Zoom is among the largest for this type of camera. Yes seems the Sanyo have various additional features. I decided for the Flip Ultra HD because the internal 8GB (no need to buy a card), it includes stereo sound, batteries recharge through USB, HDMI port, and price at Amazon --which was about $25 lower than the price at flip itself. The Zoom is very limited (2x) tou.

Besides that this is my first experience with this type of device. HD cameras are still expensive and I think what I need at this time could be done with this. Probably next generations will include a better zoom among other options.

Good to see that I was not the only one looking for this type of camera.

I don't remember the BK part, but yes that is a good price and the zoom is really good too... and not like those cell phone cameras that just pixelate everything.

I really am thinking of getting one of these.

The Sanyo Xacti seems to be a pretty good deal. I like the idea of stereo sound.  It also has a rechargeable battery included.  It seems there are several models and form factors. I was looking at this one: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=Sanyo+Xacti&oe=UTF-8&cid=15004058870394417951&sa=title&os=tech-specs, which can be had for $148.

Mino HD is prety good, but I'm thinking of getting the Sanyo Xacti myself as it seems to have a LITTLE more features, plus it records in stereo sound which I like.

Well, I can't resist and purchased a Flip HD. It cost me $173 at Amzon including two day shipping which is a good price. Will see how it works.

You mean, apart from definitely buy one? LOL

I think the one we got as a present cost around $250. With about 2 hours of storage, it does quite well for our purposes. If we use it for live-action film shooting, I expect we'll have to travel with a laptop to transfer media. Zoom function is fairly limited, and I haven't really gotten familiar with the settings, so I don't know what options we have regarding focus. But it's a great, clear picture, as long as you have enough light.

It will take regular AA batteries, but I recommend getting at least one rechargeable. It recharges right off the USB connection.
