I have been considering having a 2nd pc dedicated to rendering, allowing me to keep working on the next scene. I believe I am able to load my copy of iclone on two machines, but can they both be running at the same time? Do I also need popcorn Fx on the 2nd machine in order for them to work in the render? If so, am I allowed to load the one copy of popcorn fx on 2 machines? Has anybody any experience with this and can advise on any other issues to consider before attempting this? Cheers, Tony

Technically, you can only use one instance at a time. So that would include rendering.
I have requested (suggested) that Reallusion offer a low-cost "render-only" license for these situations, but there has been no apparent action on that request yet. Feedback Tracker Issue #3935.
iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity... Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual monitors. Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

Hi Tony... For convenience, we allow two installations per license. We do this as some users like to have one copy on a Desktop and another on a Laptop, or a work computer and a home computer for example, but only one computer may be in use at a time. Sadly if you want to have iClone running at the same time on two different computers then you will need a second license.

Peter, Thanks for clarifying that. Can you confirm if when rendering you need popcorn or any other plugin that is employed in the scene to be on the render machine? Does this actually mean that a render farm needs to buy iclone in order to be able to provide the same service? Cheers, Tony

For iclone there is no render farm option. Just the ability to render scenes on two different computers. If sharing projects between computers, you have to have all of the same assets (or plugs like popcorn fx) on each computer. It’s as simple as saving a project on the your laptop to a usb stick. Then rendering it later on a more capable desktop. You should be able to install all assets and plugs on two machines. Just open up the project and render. If some assets are missing you’ll get a prompt stating iclone cannot find X or Y. That’s basically it. A render farm implies you have several computers networked and running as slaves only to render. There’s no way to set up Iclone like that. The only thing you can do is tank up a desktop with multiple GPUs for Iray renders, but I don’t think that’s what’s you’re looking for?

@ Peter. I assume a second license cost is the cost for the software? There is no discounted cost if all you want is an additional license to use with your existing account?

On a side note - I also use IClone in the 48hfp in both DC and Baltimore - it is tough to get a short together in just 48 hours but I like the challenge - wish I could afford a MOCAP suit like PN or Live Face - could make life a little easier - thanks for sharing it

Hi Mark - any links to clips you have submitted in the past? I've always been interested in these types of contests

Hi Kungphu, Thanks for clarifying this, I suspected this would be the case but wanted to check before I made the investment in a 2nd machine. Cheers, Tony

kungphu (7/11/2019) @ Peter. I assume a second license cost is the cost for the software? There is no discounted cost if all you want is an additional license to use with your existing account? For a second license, you would need to pay the upgrade price. Discounts come into play for three or more licenses/seats.
