Often, we have to edit seamlessly two animations together. In this example, we have to stitch a running clip made with Motion puppet with a clip that shows the character stopping smoothly. With motion puppet, you only have the "run" animation in which the character stops abruptly in mid-step. You have to add a transition clip where the character stops smoothly.

I found 3 ways to do the same thing, with various results. The first one is done in iClone's timeline itself. There is a tutorial that shows you how to do it called "Walking and changing direction" at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS_aKgyuXZ4.

Now, it's pretty good, but this is not the best way to do it. There  is some sliding couldn't get rid of.

The second method is through Motionbuilder. Motionbuilder is tricky and not easy to learn, but it has tools that nobody else has. Import your animations in Motionbuilder through 3DXchange. Export same. Fantastic result. There is no sliding here. Everything is seamless.

The third method is to import your two clips in Daz Studio via 3DXchange and use Daz Studio's editing feature Animate 2 to edit. Export same. I think it's almost perfect, it's better than iClone anyway, but there a tiny little hiccup in the transition from the run to the stop.

Yes, You can work perfectly well with iClone and Daz Studio editing features but Motionbuilder wins hands down. It's an expensive program though. Very expensive.

Hey there

Thanks for this info. Could you maybe provide a link for tutorials that cover what you did in Motionbuilder?

I won't be able to buy it anytime soon, but I'd like to see it's possibilities!!

Thanks!!

There is plenty of free tutorials on Motionbuilder on Youtube if you just type "Motionbuilder" in the search engine. Look for those on characterization and the story mode tool.

I especially recommend those by  Gettaroboshinwun . He also calls himselfBIG BAD AFRO STUDIO ENTERTAINMENT   Those specifically talk about the iClone import-export features and the story mode tool.. He's also a member of this forum.

He's got a new one now talking about Character creator 3 import-export to Motionbuilder.

Interesting, I'll have to look into this. But I wish iClone could do this natively.
