~BREAKING WINDOWS BAD NEWS~ Friends - the latest news from Microsoft is that the latest Windows 10 'update' deletes random files and folders - If you have the option to NOT update yet, WAIT! Microsoft is halting further updates until this is resolved, but too late for MANY users. :pinch: BEWARE! ~V~

Thanks for the warning... I have Windows 10 Pro, which allows me to delay updates, but Home users are not so lucky.

The general release was planned for Oct.9th, so most users should be safe. I received a mail warning from AVID last week warning users of their software, Media Composer, Pro-Tools and Sibelius, not to install the update because it prevents said software from working correctly - the warning was also posted on their Forum. These are products that are being used in the production of Hollywood films, TV productions around the world and in major sound recording studios. The free AVID software - Media Composer|First and Pro-Tools|First are also affected.Thankfully AVID get a pre-release version for testing and always warn users if there are any known issues with an update. These warnings are "normally" only sent to Apple OS users because it seems that Apple are always screwing up something with new releases. The only time that I had such a warning regarding anything Windows was when 10 was first available, it took AVID about 2 months after release to get Media Composer working with it, since then there don't seem to have been any problems - serious or not. Microsoft seems to have really screwed up this time though, and I am very glad that a professional company like AVID takes their customers' well being, and livelihood, seriously.

THANKFULLY I still use Windows 7pro - but since most folks are in Windows 10, I thought it best to post this for everyone the minute I heard about it. Good luck ~V~

Thanks for the warning guys, I've always let windows update when available as they're always saying update for the best security and protection. Will wait before going on this one. Thanks.

I upgraded three computers to the October Update (1809) and thankfully I only lost my Microsoft Edge Favourites on one computer (easily got them back from another computer). The other two were fine. Definitely worth waiting for the update to be fixed before taking the chance though.

I wonder if creating a System Restore point would help? Then again, I guess any automatic, critical update automatically creates a restore point anyway. Would that not preserve personal files?

I also updated my computer a week ago, and I did not notice any file missing. Note: It takes at least an hour to complete this update.

Every time windoze 10 updates it changes a lot of things and just before an update some apps stop working properly until I do the update. Big brother's got us by the balls.
