Hi Team,

I'm part of an indie team working on developing a game, and the upcoming release of Character Creator 3 looks like it'd be great as part of our art pipeline for humanoid characters. I've got a question about license conditions though, and I'm hoping someone from the Reallusion team can help me answer it.

One of the features in our backlog is implementing character customisation, both for players and for other characters in the game. The way we're intending to implement it is this: We start by exporting a "neutral" character with sliders zeroed from Character Creator to FBX. For a number of properties that we want to customise, we adjust the relevant slider to the maximum range we want and export the updated character as a FBX. We then load the multiple FBX files into Blender and use the imported FBXs to create shape keys on the neutral character. I've implemented a proof of concept of this using CC 2 lite (and four sliders), and the results look good. We apply the same set of sliders to clothing items on the character, to keep them in sync. This lets us use a single skeletal mesh that we can customise on a per-character basis.

The question I have is, based upon the workflow described, is this use of Character Creator within the guidelines of the EULA? Based upon my reading, it seems ok, but I want to make sure that this doesn't violate any provisions about reverse engineering the software, as this will recreate some of the ways that CC morphs the base mesh assets.

Thanks!

Hi Ben,

Thanks for explaining your plans.

To use Character Creator or iClone  content in a game or application you just need a Mass Distribution License which is FREE on application.

Please contact marketing@reallusion.com and lay out your plans as you have done here. They will then be able to advise you further and issue the MDL for you.

Hi Peter,

I'm not getting any responses from that email address - is there another channel I can reach out on?

Cheers,

Ben
