Hi Folks, I quickly wanted to share the new VR app "Flipside" I just discovered, that could be the starting point for changing the game on how animated movies are made. Can you imaging if RL comes up with something similar for a VR-iClone in the future w00t:

As it is based on Unity I think CC characters and iC assets will already work with it and I will soon give it a try for sure. I'll keep you updated about my tests and experiences.

Feel free to share your thoughts with me (and RL) here.Smile

Honestly,  I see VR as the 8 track era of video - short lived......technology is moving so fast these days ...that VR will get replaced by Holographs soon enough.

IMO -  this is the future -  and even then this will probably be phased out soon enough with a full blown Holograph deck much like in star trek next generation series.

so if it's quick and easy for RL - then the VR is a novelty - that is still relatively a niche audience...Steam pushes vr a lot ...but by the time it would become a mainstream...it will be replaced with holographs.

It's SO clear to me that VR is for the young -- even watching that Youtube video posted above I started to get nauseous.

It's the same with 3D movies -- I'm just the wrong generation, as they just give me a headache.  Perhaps those millennials growing up today will find it as normal as pie.  But I'm definitely not ready for player one.

Yes TOKO !! This is my mooooost wanted feature for Iclone : Export 360VR stereoscopic movie.
Curiosly I saw an Idriss Aberkane conference. He's a research scientist and he's developing an 3D interface
to classify our google search. He says that what our brain love is area (in term of 3D) and the neurons
sollicited to process the information are the most efficient of our brain and it is not the same brain region
to process 2D. That's why 3D (stereoscopic) will be the new aera to exchange. This new way to learn/consume/advertise/communicate
is the futur and not only for young people. It's an opportunity to live our futur whatever its duration. Smile

For now the only way we have is to export from Iclone to game engine...... Doze

I don't know if you missed this but it begins to comes everywhere...

Really hope that Reallusion don't miss the train....

Haha KT I think I know what you mean. I also got a lot of different reactions from "older" people when I present VR experiences to them - some really like it, some can't handle it. Of course it also depends on the VR app/game itself and how challenging the level of immersion is. I'm also not a millennial anymore, but you really get used to handling VR worlds after a while.

Speaking of Flipside Studio (from what I have seen so far) - it uses the same principles as iClone when building a scene. You can place cameras and props with just a simple click, but the big advantage is that you are really in that scene and you place all assets around you. It's like you are building a real world set. And you can switch yourself into a character and animate it with your movements and your voice is driving the facial animation. Of course they are just at the very beginning and you can recognize some glitches, but it is a fantastic creation experience.

And... imaging an iClone-VR app that is also able to use Faceware, Leap Motion and any kind of Motion Capture suit and you are performing in your scene bringing your characters to live. Cool

@planetstardragon:
Holographic is cool and I'm following the development from different companies for a while now. Unfortunately I'm not euphoric about it at the moment as I haven't seen that much progress at all. You always need these special equipment that produce the holograms, but the biggest disadvantage is the small area that is used for the hologram. Sure, development will go on there as well, but also VR will move forward. I guess usable holographic (in terms of using it to create something) will at least last 5 years (I'm feeling more about 10 years). Maybe it's always a combination of different technologies that will become prevalent over time (see: Microsoft HoloLens). Lets see what future brings Smile

That's true Marc - RL should jump on board soon. Fingers crossed. BigGrin And thanks for the link: Yes, the Mozilla Firefox WebVR feature is really essential.

the holograph tech might be closer than you think,  there are already smart phone displays being made for it.

Thanks for the links and sure, it might be. But as the video is almost 1,5 years old and I haven't seen such a phone in real life yet, I simply can't be that enthusiastic about it. In general, I also see it from the creators point-of-view - IMO, VR adds a lot of new perspectives and freedom to the creation process. I already have included VR in my production pipeline and won't give it away anymore.

VR in iClone? I don't think so.  I'm still working on pokethrough.

Watch The Congress if you haven't seen it. There's the future of movies.  Feeling futuristic? Swap Lyrebird voices with me. Cool
