I have modeled a hat in blender for one of the characters I have bought from the content store. Basically, I can't take the character back to CC2 as it is an old nonhuman model.
How exactly can I convert hat from prop to avatar body item, so I do not have to rotate and place it on his head every time I use it and save the whole model as a character including the hat?

Load the character in iClone and then load the Hat prop. Next, with the Hat selected Attach - do not Link - it to the character. Make sure to select the Head in the Attach panel.

Make any adjustment to the size, position and rotation to set the Hat correctly.

When everything looks OK, and with the Hat still selected, click on the Character tab in the Scene Manager, select Custom and then Accessory. Click on the * sign to add the Hat and give it a Name. After that you can add the Hat to any character directly from your custom Accessory folder. Depending on the character selected it may be necessary to make minor adjustment to the item, but the main work has already been taken care of. :)

In addition to what Gerry has said, what I always do with hats/helmets/other accessories is to put them on a CC avatar in iClone (as he has shown) and then, with the avatar selected, go to the modify tab and choose "Edit in Character Creator".

Now the whole thing will come back into CC and you can save the hat THERE, so it's available to load in on other CC avatars.  This is just kind of a shortcut, because if you do save it as an accessory in iClone you can then go to file manager and copy it over to CC (but that's such a PITA for me with the hundreds of items I'm doing I prefer to do it the easy way.  That's me -- lazy as hell).

Thank you guys - now how can I do the same for say a prop and a particle?
I have created a cactus and added fur to it to make it look like thorns. How do I save both the particle and cactus together as one prop, so I can drag and drop them in any new scene I create?

The same way -- just attach one to the other (don't link -- links are animatable but not "permanent" in this regard).  Then save and both will be saved together (you can also do this with lights, by attaching them to a dummy prop, or almost anything).

I tried it but for some reason, fur is offsetting from the prop in the saved version. How do I fix this?

I'm going to guess it's your pivot position -- edit to make sure it's centered (modify/pivot/set to middle).

This post saved me alot of hard work. Need a Tutorial made on how to bring new items into CC3 as accesories, props etc. Found that when you change a sword attached to hand originally into accessory it connects as attach to Hip instead of hand in Character Creator 3. Hmmm! Try to fix the attachment and CC3 keeps crashing. After 4 hours of trying it worked.

After 4 hours of crashing?  Did you try first exporting directly into iClone and changing the attachment there?  That shouldn't crash iClone, and then you can move it back to CC3 in the same manner.
