Hi all,
I am currently researching possibilities to use different pipelines to get assets into game engine. As we are not big studio with multi-million budget we need more accessible way. there are some different possibilities. One: Crazy Talk > Character Creator > 3DXchange > iClone > 3DXchange > game engine. Pros of this way is obvious - you can use character studio, generated heads etc. etc. Con is you will need to create clothes for your models (use Marvelous designer or Zbrush) and rig it. Not the best experience. But ability to use generated heads is real time saver, taking into account that those heads are already rigged and ready for animation. Another way is to use daz models and clothes - disadvantage of this way is you will need to spend more time on changing models decimating them etc. Plus new license requires you pay additional fee for every model you are going to use in game. As for faces, you can use Facegen Artist instead of CrazyTalk, which is $139 Crazytalk pipeline is 149. For me personally both ways might be acceptable (financial wise), but when I compared results.... no way guys. What I mean? Please look below. This is original image. Just for test.
This is what I get in CrazyTalk:
Not great, but some resemblance exist. In Character Creator this head looks like this:
Similar? Hmmmm... Now look at this - this is what I get in Facegen Artist:
And this is final rendered face in Daz studio:
Same head without hairs (not fully rendered - sorry):
So, for me answer is clear: better use facegen+daz than CrazyTalk+Character Creator. I think character creator is kinda too low poly for moder games. CrazyTalk's facegen is not impressive... I don't know due to low poly models or another reasons, but not impressive at all.
Your thoughts?
