Thanks for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it !
You can of course slow down any normal 25/30 fps clip in Vegas, but you'll get a choppy lower framerate with artifacts, and immediately notice it looks wrong. If you slow down a 60 fps clip by half it'll still play at a smooth 30 fps (which is what my project fps was).
The real-life scenes are done entirely inside iclone, without chroma keying or the like, which is probably the reason they integrate so well with the rest. You simply use a video instead of a texture in the diffuse channel of the material. For the TV it was simple, just have the video play on the separate screen model and adjust the offsets, etc.The 'outside of car' part was just as simple technically, but much more difficult to 'get right visually': I created a primitive shape as a literal 'movie screen' in front of the car, and projected the video on that. I had to make an opacity mask to soften the edges of the screen so it wouldn't be too obvious that it is one,and then use clever camera settings and angles to lose the illusion of 'a screen in the distance'.
It seems as if the band is right in front and around the car, right? The following is a screenshot of the actual setup - that's how far away the real-life video actually was.
Edit: Thank you! The band was indeed quite happy, except for the bass player, who is just generally grumpy about everything
