I teach at an urban high school and we are using CrazyTalk8 to do projects 8. The students have an issue that their characters can not have hair similar to them, (dreads, braids, fades, etc...) Does anyone know a solution to this problem? 

If you can't find the right hairstyle for a 3D head, why not try creating a 2D head. If you take a photo of your students you can then create an exact likeness 2D talking character complete with the same hair.

I'll try that. It's not fair though. These things should be available in both 3d and 2d. Certain people should not be excluded from this software if the intention was for anyone (regardless of race to use it). Just my opinion though. 

I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly, as I'm in search of that myself, just for my characters period. LOL You can try this creator, as so far, this is the only one that I have seen in the Marketplace that has our style of hair, but only a few items. Hope this can help, or at least imply what you are looking for.

There's a fade hairstyle for Male, and a cornrow braided kind of ponytail something style for Female (or at least that's how it's being displayed. He also has a short dread, Well, I'll let you be the judge of it. LOL :d

Friends - I achieved this ethnic hair simply using "Conforming Hairstyles Volume 1" which has this hair in it. "Conforming Hairstyles Volume 2" has a few more, I think, I have pre-ordered it & it comes out in January. This character was originally made in Crazy Talk 8 using "Realistic Heads" Package, (which ALSO has ethnic characters) imported to Character Creator 2. Take a look  ~V~

It's not just race -- there are no (or almost no) short hair styles, so those of us who are older and not completely bald have no options either.  There just aren't a lot of hair options in either 2 or 3D from RL.

I believe that's because hair is very difficult to make -- after spending months learning how to create 3D hair I know at least that part is very true.  If you want something done you may have to learn to do it yourself (or perhaps have your students do it -- that's a good motivation for them learning a skill).
