My hunch is this will have to be done through the registry (with regedit). I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to temp files (because, well, they are temporary) so I could be mistaken.

Not at my computer right now, but i believe 3dxchange defaults to where your Windows temp files are. You need to change the location of Windows temp files, inside system properties
