Note mostly to the developers here who I love (buy lots of their things) but anyone who knows: before I get into major trouble, I thought I'd ask what might happen if I completely reorganize my content folders?

Right now they are a mess -- for some reason RL likes to divide things up in ways that don't make any sense to me, so when I try to find a blazer I can't remember if it's in Essential content, or perhaps Professional Outfits, or maybe in a sub-folder there... it's ridiculous.  And then I buy things based on that content, which ALSO have to be organized properly.

What I want to do is just to put stuff into folders that makes sense to me -- but I'm worried because then a lot of bases won't be where CC thinks they are/were.  Will that cause a problem with DRM?  Particularly with third-parties who use those bases?

I know I could just try this and see -- but I don't want to get too far into the process and then have to reinstall everything.  Anyone have a clue?

(Oh, and in case someone suggests using the custom folders -- I HATE those.  That tab always deselects when you change types, so you have at least one extra click every time you change something.  I always move my custom stuff into the main template directories as a result).

You can do it without any problems, but!

It isn't possible to move stuff around in the Default Templet folders inside CC or iClone, you can't even create a new folder inside the Apps. Everything has to be done using Windows Explorer, making sure that your new folders are sub-folders inside the correct category.

Your Blazers folder, for example, would have to be here:

Drive:\Your Content Folder\Template\Character Creator 2 for iClone Template\Cloth\Coats\Blazers.

There should be no DRM problems as you are only moving the stuff around on the same PC.

Thanks, yeah, I know you have to move it outside, and I've been kind of doing that anyway with my own content (which is always saved to the custom template, and I then move it over to the regular one in Explorer).

I also tried a bit last night and it seemed to be fine -- I realized I shouldn't have panicked because I also have this content on my laptop (I have my complete setup duplicated there) and worse came to worst I could just copy it back.  So far everything seems to work and I actually think I'll be able to find things now (this actually all started because I was just about to buy the blazers until I realized I had them -- they were buried so deep in a place I didn't look I didn't know they were there.  Now at least I think I'll know what I have and what I need).

Next up is to organize the content in iClone (my prop directory is almost literally the worst mess possible, since I've bought hundreds of things) but there I just use the search function (which is still a pain but I can at least find what I'm looking for).

Yes I like my content organised in a way that makes sense to me as well.
Is what I am going to say a good idear or not? Doesnt matter its what I do and if you think any of it suits you then good, otherwise just ignore it.

Not everything (but almost everything) can be done like this. For example the new Visual Essentials pack.
I like to be able to search for things based on the category of project I am working on and there are so many contents that fit so many variations of the categories I try to organise my content into.
I dont want to waste disk space because I need to put the same item into several category folders.
Since version 6 iClone enables the use of shortcuts to actual content to be brought into iClone.
So I use shortcuts to organise my contents
Here are the steps I follow at the moment
1) In the 'Reallusion/Template' folder I created a folder called 'ContentPacks'
2) When I buy a new pack I rename the 'iClone Template' folder in 'Reallusion/Template/iClone7 Template'  to  'iClone TemplateOfficial'
    That way, when I download the new pack it creates a new  'iClone Template' folder to load the new content into it.
3) I rename that  'iClone Template'  folder to the name of the pack I just downloaded and drag it into the 'ContentPack' folder
4) I rename 'iClone TemplateOfficial'  back to  'iClone Template'
5) I go into the new content pack folder, select all the contents in each folder and right click/create shortcuts
6) Now I put all the shortcuts into whichever of my organised folder in the 'iClone Template'  I want them in


Benefits as far as I see in my own mind

1) Now I never have to download those contents again when a new version of iClone gets released.
    I can just take my organised shortcuts and put them wherever I want and they will allways work because the actual files never get moved.
2)  I can also rename the shortcuts to whatever I want and it wont effect anything because the actual files never get renamed.
3)  When I use a shortcut and I need to know which pack it came from I can easily find that out.
4) I can make as many shortcuts to the same file as I need for all the different categories it fits into with minimum waste of disk space
5) I can go into my  'ContentPacks' folder and easily determine every item within any pack I have bought.
 
I do need to adjust any Persona files I use so they know where the animations are but once I have done that I never have to do it again.
Besides, I have bought many content packs and still needed to edit the Personas even after insalling them in the official way. Profactors beasts for example.
Also I can make shortcuts to the individual animations and I can organise them however I want without breaking any  Personas because the actual files dont ever get moved.

I have a ton of content I have bought and I am getting old and trying to remember the names of everything I have when searching is too hard for me.
Also, looking for a particular building and trying to remember which pack it is in because I cant remember what it was called is also too hard for me
That is probably the primary reason I organise my content.
To make it as easy as possible for me to find what I am looking for and also to find other related content I own that I had forgotten I have.
