The logic board on our PC has died, so rather than purchase a new PC, I plan to purchase Windows and install it on my Mac.

I am deciding whether to run Windows from Boot Camp or VMware (or Parallels).

If I run via Boot Camp, can anyone advise me on how much space to partition for Windows? I will be using CrazyTalk 6 Pro and Dragon Naturally Speaking ... and probably FlashAnts.

iMac info:
1TB
Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 130

Is there any advantage to partitioning for Boot Camp first, and then running Windows for CrazyTalk virtually via VMware? Or is it best to skip Boot Camp and go directly to virtual?

Thanks - I appreciate your input. :)

Hi,

We do not ensure that CrazyTalk6 can work well under VM Operating System. You will need to run Windows via Boot Camp. In addition, Dragon Naturally Speaking will cause CrazyTalk Text-to-Speech crash, so do not install this programme.

Yours sincerely,

Thanks Mick! It sounds like Boot Camp would be the best way for me to go. I don't need my Mac apps to be active when I'm using CrazyTalk, so virtual isn't a necessity.

I don't use CrazyTalk text to speech, so I don't think Dragon will affect it. I wouldn't have both programs running at the same time, either. :)

Thank you Nick - any suggestions how much space to give the partition that I make on my Mac for Windows? (Since that's not really a CrazyTalk question, I'll search on the web and the Apple forums, too.)

hi sorry late getting back on this...
I allowed 32gig which seems to work fine... I also save video outputs onto a separate hard drive and use those on the Mac side with final cut express for editing...

ps If your into movie making you may want to support my request for the inclusion of second monitor ability... see my other post on this...

regards Nic

I beg to differ. I have Dragon 9.5 on my Vista 32 bit HP as well as Crazy Talk and the Text to Speech works as advertised.

I finally purchased Windows 7.. just need to decide whether to set it up as 32 bit or 64 bit on my iMac. Apparently it depends on the model of my iMac as to whether it can run Windows 64 bit or not. I'm researching that on the Apple forums.

Doe anyone know whether Crazytalk Pro 6 runs better on 32 or 64 bit?

Thanks!

I decided not to put Windows 7 on Boot Camp, as Apple doesn't support Boot Camp running Windows 7 yet, and I have seen a lot of issues discussed on the Apple forums. (It was frightening to read them!)

This week I loaded Windows 7 via VM Ware onto my Mac. Images on CrazyTalk Pro6 were very blurry and even the output files were blurry. The drivers on VM Ware are up-to-date, so there was not much I could do - EXCEPT... use CrazyTalk Pro5 ! I know it doesn't have all the capabilities of Pro6, but after three months without CrazyTalk, I'll take what I can get!

After Apple announces that they support Windows 7 on Boot Camp, I may try Pro6 on Boot Camp. But for now, at least I can make talking videos. :)
