Thanks for the reply, Animagic! That was a fantastic tip about converting to ASCII - it seems indeed that he referenced his own path to the textures. Which means I'll have to do it manually, but at least I know why it wasn't working!

The folder containing the fbx and key file has a materials subfolder ending in .fbm (but with a different name than the fbx file itself). I can actually manually load the textures from the materials folder and they appear correctly on the models, but it's a lot of trial and error as the texture names are nondescript. I have checked and unchecked 'import texture settings' to external textures with no effect. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but can't figure out what!

The name of the folder should be the same as that of the FBX file, as far as I know.

There is a free Autodesk FBX converter (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/item?siteID=123112&id=22694909) that includes a viewer. You could try to load your character in that. If it also shows white you know it's not 3DXchange.

The converter lets you save in ASCII format, which would allow you to check the texture references. The references might be local to the person who created the file in which case you would also have no access to the textures.

Hi all!
When I try to import some custom made fbx characters plus clothes into CC, they show up completely white - both the characters and the clothes. (They have been made by someone else for me, I have provided them the with base characters and the decrypt key files).

I import the fbx, set decrypt key location, then resolve a small cloth layer conflict (2 shoe instances - change one to cloth and set layer) - results in a white model.I have been assured all was fine on the designer's side.

Any ideas where the problem could lie?
