../..Less Than.. 100.

Hi,
Before I'll report to the Issue Tracker I'll post two shading/rendering issues I think are "major", albeit these show in Character Creator where rendering is not the final point. Nonetheless, these impact the way Characters look, so I think it is important enough to talk about these even before having confirmation (or not) with iClone 7 rendering. Your comments are welcome on this, of course.

(check this post for the first reported issue: [MajorIssue] Shadows Do Not Take Material Opacity Into Account)

The second issue is that whenever you lower your Material Opacity less than 100, then Diffuse lighting has no effect. Only Ambient (and IBL which can be conceptually considered as Ambient lighting). And this is quite major. Let's see that with some pictures:

1) I'm taking the last step of the previous reported issue and focus on the Eye, and especially on the Cornea Surface/Material, which has an opacity of 80 by default. The Cornea is "on top" of the Eye Surface/Material:

2) Allready we can see there is something wrong, the eyes look quite dark in compareason to the skin surface. Well, one might think lets crank up the opacity so the Cornea will better react to the light. Lets do that and adjust the Opacity to 99:

3) Ooops. Something wrong here. Now the Cornea is almost black !? Right, there is no Diffuse on the Cornea here, and when the Opacity was 80, you were seeing the Eye surface actually. Not the Cornea, because in that scene there is no ambient lighting. But lets push the Cornea Opacity to 100 now:

4) Now the Cornea is fully visible, because there is Diffuse lighting on it. And it looks like coherent with the Skin Diffuse intensity. Lets see with the Hair Scalp now, to better understand. Lower the Hair Scalp Opacity to 99 instead of 100:

5) No more Diffuse on the Hair Scalp anymore. And to better illustrate that, lets color the Diffuse Color to some bright Green:

6) Nothing change. No Green color in the Hair Scalp rendering. Now change back the Hair Scalp Opacity to 100:

7) Now we have some Green, because Diffuse Lighting is back into action where the surface opacity is 100. Note this is not the case for the entire Hair Scalp surface because we have a map on the Opacity channel. If we now deactivate that Opacity Map, we clearly see that the Diffuse lighting is back to normal, Green everywhere:

I considere this issue really "Major", because having no Diffuse on a transparent surface is a no-no, especially in the PBR univers. These no-diffuse transparent surfaces will completely ruin the overall PBR shading look.

That's also partly why the iClone hairs are far from looking as good as compared to other softwares (Daz, Substance, Marmoset, 3dCoat, etc..).
