Hi Guys,

I have Crazytalk 8.1 (Mac) and I am trying to create a 3D head of Wayne Rooney.

I am using the following images.

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/c118442f-c319-48f4-8467-57e7.png

 https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/5897b606-b4aa-40f5-a2e0-cc40.png

The image in CrazyTalk is:
https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/3e3bd11c-98a1-4e4b-a34f-7e6e.png

In Character Creator I get

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/dd494dd3-d4dd-471e-97b2-5919.png

In Iclone I get

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/3ef05f13-98cb-4481-99b4-6441.png

As you can see the first image has some resemblance ( but needs to be better) so

1. Are my images good enough to use ( Feel free to have a go).
2. The final product once exported from Crazytalk 8 then used in Character Creator and exported to Clone looks nothing like Wayne Rooney any more.
3. How can I replicate his hair style? This link states design your own hair etc http://www.reallusion.com/iClone/character-creator/custom-outfit.html but I don't see how I can do this.
Any helps or tips appreciated.

Cheers

Anyone out there ?

This is a serious issue ( unless I'm doing something stupid).

Dear Steve,

Thank you for contacting Reallusion Support.

The first thing to check is that you are resetting your CC character before loading the CrazyTalk 8 3D head. This is vital to avoid problems occurring with existing morphs. Please see the forum page below for help with this.

https://forum.reallusion.com/264594/How-to-get-a-exact-likeness-when-bringing-CT-8-head-into-CC

There are also a few technical reasons why you will notice some differences between the 3D head in CrazyTalk 8 and how it appears in iClone 6 or Character Creator.
For example, iClone 6 and CC we use DirectX 11 by default whereas CrazyTalk 8 uses DirectX 9. Also the lighting in CrazyTalk 8 is flat but in iClone/CC we use advanced lighting with detailed shadows. Another important difference that does impact the look of the character is that CT8 uses a 200mm camera lens but iClone 6 uses a 80mm lens by default.

In your screenshots in your forum post, we see for iClone 6 your lighting is very poor. Please try adjusting the lighting to eliminate the heavy shadows and adjust the camera for close-ups to better match that of CrazyTalk 8 as this will definitely improve the look.

Getting the exact hair from the photo will be difficult to match unless you are an experienced 3D modeller and can quickly create the hair yourself. A better option would be to look for a suitable hair model on sites like Daz3D.com and then use 3DXchange 6 to convert this for use in iClone 6/CC and CrazyTalk 8.

For more help on creating custom content like hair and accessories, please see the page below.

I hope this gives you a little guidance.

It also appears your shadow resolution is set at the default -- make sure you bump this up (so that your shadows won't have jagged edges).

That and changing your lighting and using a different camera zoom will help tremendously. As Peter points out, the default camera in iClone is much wider (which is why his face looks wider) and by changing to a telephoto you will get a flatter image (it's no coincidence that in portrait shots the flatter the better, which is why most photographers will shoot with a shorter lens).

Honestly I think you're pretty close (the hair will always be an issue -- that's the weak spot of iClone and having to rely upon third parties for help is a PITA given how few resources there are: we could use about a hundred more styles for men, as women always get concentrated on).
