I'm a newbie to iClone and I've got a big animation project coming down the road so I need to develop a budget and schedule.   I realize that asking how long rendering times are per frame using iClone is like asking 'how much does a house cost?'  -- there are so many variables.

However, I'd love to get a RANGE of rendering times from several users who'd be willing to jump in with quick answers.  Rendering at 1080x1920, specify what OS and hardware used, and note what's been your low end and high end times per frame.

(Years back I co-produced a multi-million dollar 3D theme park film in 70mm.  Our team used supercomputers.  But now I'm in a new world with totally different tools.  So thanks for your input!)

HI Bob
I am no rendering expert.......have you considered using an online  rendering farm? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Are you going to use the Indigo renderer or the IC renderer? or  ??
Knowing this is the start I would think....also what com> system/s you are using?
To compare rendering time with others would not be an accurate or close example. As I understand it, every scene would need different rendering times according to what is in it and your com system and renderer. Your render settings may vary for each scene too.
Hope that helps you some.

MSI GE66 Raider, Intel 10th Gen, I7, SC Turbo to 5.3 GHZ, 240HZ, 64GB 3300 Ram,  2x 1TB M2 SSD Drives, NVIDIA GPU RTX 2070/8GB, 55" Sony 4K Monitor  External data drives total 7 TB. and an AUDIO Studio Recording system.

Indigo at this point.   Yes, rendering farm is in consideration.   Do you have one you love?

Thanks.

Rendering iClone animation with Indigo is currently problematic (there are several threads explaining why). But apart from that Indigo is not fast so you're looking at minutes per frame for decent quality. That's why render farms are used with Indigo.

You would have to decide if you're going for a hyper-photo-realistic look or not, which would in part determine whether Indigo is useful.

well I tried the version 4 now with GPU rendering. Speed improved x10!!!!
One machine with a good graphic card can do decent results, in 2min per frame. See my other thread....

Here you can find a list of renderfarms for Indigo, I think the most used are Ranch and Rebus.
Of course they are using still the latest stable 3.8.x version, the new 4 with pure GPU rendering it's still in beta, but it's free so you can at least try it before committing.
As unbiased renderer Indigo is fast (or slow depending from the perspective) as any other render of the same kind, but looking at your works I think you are well aware of this.
Pay attention for the Indigo plugin export bug, if you really need realism there are currently only two paths you can follow: Indigo or export to another realtime render such as Unity or Unreal, both paths not trouble free.
Depending from your timeframe the upcoming iClone PBR will add more realism to the final result, but the only information we got so far is that will come sometime in 2016 (I will add, probably).

Another thing to take into account if you're considering an Indigo render farm, especially if it's not a local farm consisting of workstations on your own network...

The current Indigo plug-in exports projects in the most inefficient way possible, resulting MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF DISK SPACE BEING FILLED.

If you plan to use an external rendering farm, TRANSFERING ALL THAT DATA TO THE FARM could be a significant obstacle to overcome.

In short, the plug-in writes every frame completely independent, so a 700-frame render will have 700 copies of the terrain, 700 copies of the table, 700 copies of the teapot, 700 copies of the floor... and on and one.  I'm talking about both the geometry and the textures.  It should only write a single copy of things that don't change.  I have complained about that many times and have written about it in Feedback Tracker.

Lastly... export an experimental 1-second or 5-second clip, do some test renders, and see what it takes to get the look and quality you desire.

Please share your journey with us; lessons learned, struggles, successes, and pictures.  Good luck.
