Bray42 (6/18/2016) Personally I would like to be able to use a video background in CT8.
Gifs made on web based program/converters are usually open to use by the company for any purpose they choose (read their terms). They automatically get all the usage rights they want from your works and can profit from it too.
If you do commercial work for someone then that may be a violation of their contract with you. If you sold them the usage rights. You may want to take a look at this TUTORIAL using Blender's Image Sequence function. I'm not a hard core Blender user in any shape or form but was very impressed with how easy it was to use this feature and how quickly it worked. I have only used it with .png files but you might want to give it a go for your .gif flies also. It also can do the reverse, convert a video into image files! :)

Animated backgrounds are planned for CT8. You should be able to use popVideos (and possibly other videos) in a future update. :)

then this is a good thread to show why it's needed! Heck, it could be it's own new line of product, with animated gif backgrounds for ct8! I always take the compositing route myself these days - working at getting better at it actually - try the parallax effect with images in hitfilm, where you break up an image and give it z-depth - who needs tons of models when you can cut up pictures! 77% of original size (was 655x19) - Click to enlarge

PSD, it wouldn't help because CT8 doesn't play animated GIFs.
