after a quick search,  it seems that the .igs file is compatible with other 3D software -  now the extent of the compatibility - I don't know,  and how practical it may be,  being that iclone renders each frame as a new file  for indigo...

This is a file that I found searching the net that apparently reads and converts .igs files.

I haven't tried this,  so I can't say it works. I simply had a hunch that somewhere in the indigo file system was something that had open compatibility -  and it appears my hunch was right.

IGES is a cad format that has been around for a very long time. I would be surprised if the two are related at all, beyond suffix.

i wouldn't,  indigo use to be freeware, so it wouldn't be unusual that they used an open format -  but I'm just thinking it's not practical,   if it does work,  all those files to be converted would be one heck of a task for a 1 min video, even with a macro you are talking about taking an already large export folder and doubling it up for conversion -  i personally would rather let it render out in indigo,  being that their newest updates render faster.

You can always use it if you want, with better results than with the bugged iClone Indigo plugin.
Using one of these Pro applications you are not lacking render options, from internal to external renders.
The only real problem is the iClone-->Pro app workflow.

Rampa gets 100 bonus points.  :)

IGES and STEP are "engineering geometry" specifications, originally for transferring 2D blueprints and stuff like that, and then 3D geometry too.  STL is for "stereolithography" files, which more people will people might recognize if I use the term "3D Printers."

It's possible that another renderer can read Indigo files, but they are not at all related to IGES files that coincidentally share the same ".igs" extension.

Note: iClone users do NOT use Indigo... the use Indigo RT.
...Inferior results compared to Indigo!

I know Indigo RT has a reduce set of features compared to "full" Indigo.
For example, no "section planes" and no "shadow catchers."
http://www.indigorenderer.com/product-comparison
But I would expect the actual rendering results to be the same.

Are you saying that if you render the same model in both Indigo and Indigo RT, you get different results?

Curious to know how a render is categorized as Professional. Looking at various render examples of any unbiased render I will conclude any of them is for professional in the right hand.
Also iClone is perfectly capable to use Indigo Renderer instead of RT: you need only to purchase the license.
Considering the iClone users price target and work type I find RT a better match, i.e.difficult to think someone using a midlevel game engine will absolutely need IES lighting.

@Sw000p, I think the problem is the OP wanted to benefit from the fast iClone workflow but got stuck at the render stage because to get a quality render, he has to backtrack and "pipeline things left right and centre" + costs.

If iClone had a better render engine plugin - like VRAY RT the problem of "Pipeline this, pipeline that + costs" goes away.

Maybe RL is deliberately refusing togive proper render because they want to keep the pipeline revenue stream alive.  But what RL might not be getting with that approach is that it is unsustainable and risky in terms of long term user retention.

If I got an iClone "clone" that offers me VRAY RT I would seriously consider the total cost cost of jumping ship vs total cost of hanging on.. and my gut tells me jumping ship will be cheaper than "pipelining" long term.

RL is playing long term russian roulette with pipeline.

Like I said, the Max/Maya solutions are academic...I have access, but I'm unwilling to invest time to learn it as at some point, I may not have access. I would much prefer to use Cinema 4d if there was a great way to move the files over. Recreating it in cinema may be the best way...the internal renderer is really fast, and i have octane for it as well.

I'm willing to bake, export, whatever I need to do. I want to render outside of iclone 6 pro. I have 3dxchange 6 pro, cinema 4d r 15, poser pro 11, daz studio 4.8, reality 4.2 for poser and daz, and my wife has the current auto desk educational pack (maya, max).

Is there ANY way to send out my iclone files for external rendering?.

Now that you've confirmed you have Octane...

Based on most economical (time/money) but WITH iClone/3DX/CC in the pipeline
- best option is C4D + Octane
- second best option budbundy's Max/Maya + high end renderer path

But if you have small-medium scene, only basic soft cloth needed, no particle effects
Still based on most economical (time/money)
Then iClone/3DX/CC won't be an issue (not required in the pipeline)
- best option is Poser Pro 11 + Octane (with physics + soft cloth)
- second best option Daz Studio 4.8 + iRay (now with 2 dynamic cloth options)
