I just bought popvideo 3, and I feel like I'm missing something obvious.  I'm setting out to take a sequence of png files and make a transparent avi video.  I open a new project, then I import all the files.  The workspace shows exactly what I wanted, a figure animated on a blank background (i.e. chessboard texture).  On the Edit panel, I select Mask Video/Image.  On the Export panel I select avi and click export, and select Full Frames (uncompressed).  It makes the video, then when I play it, instead of being transparent, it has a solid black background.  Please help a newbie.

I'm beginning to understand that my problem is that the default movie player that pops up when popvideo asks me if I want to play the result doesn't support transparent avi.  I made one in mov format, and it played okay in powerpoint, which was kind of my goal.  But avi transparency doesn't show up in powerpoint, apparently.  Where does transparent avi actually work?

In iClone, for example :D
...or any other Video Editing SW (proprly called NLE, Non-Liner Editor).
I am not sure what you are after with Powerpoint: if you want to create some video that shows in front of some fixed image, just do it in as NLE or iClone and then play the final video.
Powerpoint is surely 100000000000 times more limited than what you can do in iClone or a NLE and, honestly, it is only intended to create presentations, with some very basic event-driven animation.
Do not expect complex video handling...

Cheers

That's a reasonable question.  I am trying to create a PowerPoint presentation that has a figure moving about in front of the slides.  I need, during the presentation, to be able to select from a pool of videos of the character, so that he seems to be responding to one of a limited number of possible questions.  Does that make sense?

Hi..

popVideo 3 can't export AVI video with a built in alpha channel. The only video format (apart from popVideos) that supports an alpha channel is the MOV format. If you wish to use AVI then you will need to export your source video and alpha channel video separately and then combine them in a video editor afterwards.

Please see the Online Manual page HERE which explains this in more detail.
