I decided on the 980 ti because of the price difference. It will be easier to move to a 2 card system using the 980 ti than the titan. I believe both will be overkill for iclone, but you will love the extra horsepower, especially if you have to use other apps! Also, a laptop with the 980m (like I am using now) is more than capable of maxing iclone out. Very capable!

...apart from the natural envy, I will say that you will not experience any kind of issues with such a monster GPU.
I have the GTX980 and I am currently working on a monster-project with 66 characters with no issue, except a bit of sluggish UI (and I plan to add more, because it seems I still have system resources for them).

The thing you need to consider is whether to add 2 GPUs: it does not necessarily mean 2x GPU RAM size (most of the time it does not!) and also you need to check the GPU bus architecture because 2 GPUs could mean half bus bandwidth for each one, so faster data processing but slower data movement aroound the system.
Check it carefully...

Cheers

Unless you seriously expect to exceed the 6GB of graphics memory, I'd go for the 980Ti.
Other than the memory, their performance is extremely similar.
Here's a good side-by-side comparison.  (Note that sometimes "lower is better" in the graphs.)

If picking the 980Ti leaves you with too much money in your pocket, buy a bigger SSD, or some new software, or send the excess to me.

iClone 7... Character Creator... Substance Designer/Painter... Blender... Audacity...
Desktop (homebuilt) - Windows 10, Ryzen 9 3900x CPU, GTX 1080 GPU (8GB), 32GB RAM, Asus X570 Pro motherboard, 2TB SSD, terabytes of disk space, dual  monitors.
Laptop - Windows 10, MSI GS63VR STEALTH-252, 16GB RAM, GTX 1060 (6GB), 256GB SSD and 1TB HDD

You are better off buying extra system RAM for the price difference. That will help iClone for large scenes and Indigo as well.
