Then don't select the first one.
Sorry I guess I wasn't clear/specific enough. I don't want all selected to become one sub-prop, I want ALL selected to be their own sub-props. Swooop is telling you the right thing.
There is a Node to sub-props which identifies each part to the base item as a Sub-Prop.
Consider this an attachment Node to the whole article or item.
The default is to give the Node (GRAY) the same name as the item, or the name of the first item, if group selecting multiple items are to be made sub-props.
BUT,
you do have to select each item separately to make them separate Nodes or Sub-props.
What you are looking for it seems, is a single EASY button that makes all meshes in the list sub-props, instead of having to pick and choose each one. Right?
I do see your point now, because I have had to go through and separate items one at a time for Physics based use, when there were 500 itemized parts... Shattered Glass, Walls, etc.. One button would make it easier for some of the things I've done, but it takes only minutes to go the list and get a rhythm of Up arrow, Click to make a sub-prop.
Tedious for large amounts, but I can testify, it has been done many times by me.
Clarity in questions; makes it clearly understood.
Thank you for that.

There isn't a "Hot-Key" per se, but you can select multiple pieces and then choose the "Make Sub-Prop" button option and then rename the root item when it highlights, so it does work for what it is.
You have to select the items anyway, so a Hot Key would actually be redundant.I've already tried this -it doesn't work, if I try to apply it to all selected only the first one gets made into a sub-prop.
