When I apply a UV map image to a shape, I can see a reverse image on the back of the shape, even though I have it set to planar. How do I make it so that there's no image visible on the other side?

Thanks

Depending on the object, make the image ONE-Sided.

OK I found the check box for "2 - Sided" in the materials section, but I'm not there yet. What I'm seeing is shown below. The 2-sided check box in unchecked, so I assume it's 1-sided. The left photo is a tree image applied to a flattened box (essentially making it a wall). You can see outlines on the other side. The photo on the right is the opposite side of the wall which is a darkened mirror image. I've messed around with diffuse color and alpha threshold too (I can get the outlines to disappear, but I can still see the image on the back of the wall). What should I do so that the image is only seen on one side of the wall?  Thanks for your patience. BTW, this is all in iClone 6.

There are a couple ways to get closer, or exactly what you want. The quick, not perfect way is to scale your object to "1" or "0" on its Y axis. That will still show through on the back side, but it will be flat. A better way would be to use a 2 dimensional plane to put the tree on, instead of a 3D solid. A good one to use for this is the "plane" in the "Props/3D Space" folder. It is a single sided surface, and will not show at all from the back. Just rotate 90 degrees on X, and move and scale as needed. If there is any ant-aliasing in the original image, it's still going to show "edges" from the back side, but if it's going up against a wall, then that doesn't matter. Same would go for what you already have of course. ;)

From your first posting it was assumed that you were doing this on a 2 Face mesh... You are putting this on a 6 face mesh if you are using a box..
You have to create a UV that uses an Opacity map that will HIDE all the faces not wanted.

Single sided still applies, but you have to UV Launch inside iClone and figure out what faces are inappropriate and make those BLACK.  Where you want the Tree (shown in your response) would go on the ONE of SIX faces, the rest would be obscured by the Opacity map.
