So it seems that when I import a character from daz3d 4.8 with props that they land up being in a different place when they are in 3dxchange. I can select the prop, but I can't seem to find how to move it to the correct position. I see in the modify tab there is a transform section but nothing is accessible. I have imported it in fbx format. I'm sure it is just me being an idiot so help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Your best bet is to not include props in your FBX import but add them later in iClone as separate imports attached to body parts. It is actually the DAZ studio FBX export that does it, it zeros props, in scenes too which is why obj best for static scenes.

Thanks Wendy that seems the way to go. Shame things never work the way you would like :)

Hey Wendy, that worked well. I now have my character with props linked, which I can save as a scene. Is there a way for me to save my character with props to be used in other scenes?

I probably should leave this for someone else who'll know for sure, but in the past I tried saving a character with props intact, and it doesn't save that way. It might save if the prop is saved as an Accessory first, but as far as I know, saving a character will not save props attached to it.

Does that mean that you would have to assemble a complex scene all in the scene itself? I am trying to create a virtual studio and I would like to reuse the same stage but bring in different actors and props for different scenes.

No, you can build all the sets & scenes you want. There's no real relationship between the set/scene & characters... You can save characters individually, just not with props.

If you have a set with many components that you want to reuse, you can create a dummy object (or use one of the props such as the floor) and make all your scene props ATTACH to that. The you can SAVE the parent item which will save all the attached objects. Later, in a specific scene, if you need to move some of the objects in the scene just DETACH it from the parent. This approach has the benefit that when you drop the set into your project, you can re-position the whole set, initially, without having to move each item in the set.
Consider a project where you have made a living room for scene 1. Consider a second project where you have made the kitchen for scene 2. Suddenly you realize that in scene 3 you want to pan from the kitchen to the living room. No problem. Take the scene 1 set prop (i.e. the dummy object to which all items in living room are attached) and drop it into the project. Take the scene 2 set prop and drop it into the project. Now you can move the kitchen into position (relative to the living room) easily because the whole kitchen is a single prop. Once in place, you can detach parts of the kitchen, for example, to allow the character to pick up and move props in the kitchen.

Thanks my lord that sounds sensible. So how do you save a linked group of objects as a scene? I can only see the chance to save as a project, or is that the same?
